Job Description

About Our Team:

Due to the continued growth and expansion of our Renewables Team in Edinburgh, we are looking to increase our technical workforce and are seeking to recruit a Level 6 Apprentice Civil-Structural Technician.  The aim is that the successful candidate will be enrolled on the relevant apprenticeship course in Sept 25, however, they can commence employment sooner experiencing on the job training. 

Our Renewables and Energy Civil/Structural team are seeking a graduate civil apprentice within their Edinburgh office to join from August 25 onwards. 

The successful candidate will be deployed to work on different projects providing civil support for the following types of technologies.

On and offshore windSolar PVHydroelectric – run of river and pumped storage.Grid connection works – cable route and substation civilHydrogen production and storageBattery energy storage systems (BESS)

Projects include all stages of design from feasibility to detailed design and site construction supervision both in the UK and internationally. Our clients are a mix between large energy utility generators to private developers.

Responsibilities include: 

Supporting the delivery of consultancy services on renewable energy engineering projects. Providing input into feasibility level studies for renewable energy projects in conjunction with the wider AECOM teams. Preparation of technical reports.Preparation of detailed design information

On the job support and learning

When an apprentice starts at AECOM, we pair them with a senior member of the team who will guide and mentor them through their initial period working on live projects and business development tasks, to support with any technical queries. We also offer our apprentices the flexibility of working on a range of projects in the various service offerings and technical specialisms that our Practice delivers. This helps establish their areas of interest, and develops a firm sustainability grounding, that will allow our apprentice to choose the direction of their career.

Apprentice Development Programme

In addition to your identified external training provision in Civil Engineering (Level 6) (usually delivered via day release or in block terms) our Apprentice ADVANCE programme is designed to help you build your career in AECOM. You will attend a number of instructor-led training sessions where you will meet and hear from people across the business and take part in a series of interactive activities to equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in your role.  We will provide you with all the support and tools you need to achieve your professional development ambitions, including Chartership with the relevant international professional institution.  

Successful apprentices will gain a BSc or BEng civil engineering degree.

Qualifications

Apprenticeship candidates will typically have a minimum of 120 UCAS points (or equivalent) .  This would typically be at least three A levels at Grades A*-C including Mathematics and Physical Science or their equivalent or will have completed a Level 3 Apprenticeship as a Civil Engineering Technician.Minimum of 5 GCSE’s (or Scottish Standard Grade or Junior Certificate in Ireland) at grade ‘C/4’ or above, including Mathematics & EnglishShow an aptitude towards software-based engineering and drawing e.g. Computer Aided Design (CAD) and other similar 3D softwareDemonstrate an interest in and a desire to pursue a career in Civil-Structural EngineeringCommitment to continued education and improvement through on-the-job learning and training opportunities.Creative, practical, adaptable and enthusiasticAbility to demonstrate attention to detailAbility to think in a methodical way to design, plan and organize parts of projectsEnglish language proficient, holding excellent communication skills to present information in speech, drawings and reportsAble to carry out occasional remote working
