Duties

Functioning as a civil engineering technical specialist in the area of water resources and site development: under general supervision, perform all aspects of conventional design engineering and analysis; prepare a variety of moderately complex civil engineering deliverables; perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection; collect, assimilate, and manage data for engineering work; prepare complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles; understand and adhere to budget, schedule, and quality requirements; may provide direction and guidance to others; function as a technical specialist; broaden knowledge and skill set in area of discipline; expand knowledge in other disciplines and/or functional areas; continue to learn and remain current on departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies and procedures and apply to assigned tasks as appropriate; assign tasks to and coordinate with other internal/external team members on less complex projects; initiate contact with other disciplines as needed to identify and coordinate details of the work; actively seek to understand client interests and drivers through normal client contact and through interaction and communication with project leadership; apply understanding of client interests and drivers to their own behavior and performance of the work under his/her responsibility; provide support to business development or pursuit activities; and share current knowledge of latest technology and processes. Interpret, develop, and coordinate State as well as National specific site development permits such as Environmental Resource Permits required in the state of Florida. Utilize mathematical modeling techniques to analyze and predict the behavior of water resources in both underground and surface environments, including floodplains, streams, rivers, and wetlands. Examine and interpret a variety of topographical and geological data, such as survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other relevant information, in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of the natural features and characteristics of a specific area. Work closely with teammates and supervisor to optimize hydraulic design concepts. Work with project manager to capture effective meeting notes and explain hydraulic elements. Convey designs to other teams including structural, geotechnical, cost engineering, project controls, and clients. Plan and design stormwater systems from conceptual through final design, including developing plans, specifications, cost estimates, and applicable technical reports. Participate in site & roadway design, underground utility design, grading, erosion control and sediment control plans, storm sewer design, and water quality Best Management Practice design. Requirements

Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field plus 2 years’ related experience, or in the alternative, Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field plus 3 years’ related experience.  Must have experience site development for water and stormwater systems, including design, permitting process, site grading, flood modeling, and drainage. Must have experience developing hydrologic and hydraulic 1D and 2D models to assess floodplain boundaries and inform development of floodplain and flood risk management. Proficient in the use of engineering design and analysis software including: ESRI GIS, QGIS, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HEC RAS, ICPR 3 & 4, Hydro CAD, TR-55, HEC HMS, Storm CAD, and Bentley Open Roads. Must have experience working with various teams including multiple disciplines. Must have experience planning and designing stormwater systems from concept through construction to final design including site, roadway, underground utility design, grading, erosion, control and sediment control plans, storm sewer design. Must have experience in designing pumping systems, pumping stations, pipelines, force mains, or sewers for the collection of wastewaters. Must report to office in Orlando, Florida, but also permitted to work from home on a hybrid schedule and must live within 50 mile radius of Orlando office.  Travel to project sites in the U.S. up to 15% of the time. Must have good written and verbal communications skills in English.
