A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join a leading design studio to direct their business as COO/MD.

Our client is a London based studio who take an innovative approach to complex projects both in the UK and internationally.  They work across a range of projects inducing those within the arts, public buildings,  education and housing and have won over 100 awards, including the RIBA Stirling Prize.

They are now looking for a COO/MD to be responsible for all operational aspects of the practice.  The role will be pivotal in pulling together all functions of the business including Finance, HR, Facilities, Company Administration, Administrative Support, Project Operations and Marketing.

You will be responsible for leading and delivering the strategic objectives of the business, working closely with the board of directors to maintain the reputation and profile of the practice and the services that it provides. 

Industry knowledge and experience in a similar role is highly desirable as they are looking for someone to take a holistic approach to the role and jump right in. 

Key Responsibilities

Financial Ensuring that all financial functions are undertaken by others on time and up to standard  Reviewing & analysing financial reports and presenting to the leadership team. Review, benchmark and prepare financial budgets, forecasts and projections for the business Engaging externally with financial institutions, accountants and industry networks. Operations Leading the operational activities to ensure that the practice is fit for purpose and the business can thrive. Ensuring that the appropriate company administration and governance is in place Being the point of contact of all business related matters, and reporting to the company Board and chairing Board meetings Engaging with R&D consultants and seeking to continuously improve the business. HR Ensuring that there is a robust HR function in place and provide direction, guidance and leadership Consulting on policies and development of HR practices  Reporting to the board on HR matters and with external HR networks and HR industry best practice.    Studio & Facilities Ensuring that there is a safe and secure studio that is fully equipped and fit for purpose Providing direction and guidance to the Studio Manager Strategically advising on IT, budgeting and related financial matters. Ensuring that the business is compliant with health & safety and environmental requirements. Project Operations Leading the provision of project operations, consulting and supporting projects on legal, financial, administrative and resourcing matters to successfully run projects. Working with project leaders & project architects provide input and guidance on fees, appointments, claims, profitability, staffing and insurances and monitoring, analysing and reporting on project performance. Engaging with subconsultants & external advisors and monitoring industry developments that effect the delivery of projects and services.  Strategy Leading the strategic planning for the business, undertaking research, reviewing and analysing of the business, Engaging externally with business and industry networks to inform the business and help it thrive.Skills and Experience Prior experience in high level business operations role within the architecture design industry Financial management experience as well as knowledge of HR  Strong people management skills Excellent communication and presentation skills Ability to coach and mentor
