The Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County (BGCN) is seeking a Chief Operating Officer. Join a dynamic and growing organization that has tripled our annual budget to 3.5 million over the last decade, while achieving the first five star rating for our licensed childcare on Aquidneck Island and significantly growing the numbers of youth served. BGCN is nearing the finish of its first ever comprehensive campaign, raising $15 million and will begin construction soon with the goal of moving into newly renovated and expanded facilities in early ’27. Be a key member of the leadership team as we move to double the number of youth served (including licensed childcare, adding a PreK program, teens, athletics, aquatics, camps, and school partnerships).
Direct experience driving significant growth, developing staff, and delivering improved outcomes are critical.
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) reports directly to the CEO and plays a key role on the Executive Management Team, overseeing the day-to-day operations across all club locations. The COO ensures that programs are delivered effectively and safely, manages operational budgets, and supports partnerships that enhance youth development and organizational growth. This role is essential for aligning operations with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County’s mission and strategic goals, promoting positive experiences and impactful outcomes for club members.
ResponsibilitiesOperational LeadershipDirect daily operations, including program delivery, staff supervision, facility management, and safety compliance.Evaluate and enhance program effectiveness based on data-driven insights, optimizing outcomes and adherence to Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) standards and all BGCN expectations. Develop and manage operational budgets, ensuring responsible financial practices.
Program Growth and DevelopmentPartner with the CEO and Executive Management Team to create and implement strategic plans aimed at achieving organizational objectives.Lead the development and implementation of strategies to expand program offerings and reach underserved communities.Work with program directors to ensure alignment with organizational goals and adherence to best practices.Track and report on strategic plan progress and identify areas for growth in program delivery, membership, and community engagement. Staff DevelopmentRecruit, hire, develop, and manage a high-performing team across all club locations, fostering a culture centered on youth development and member engagement.Oversee staff training and leadership development to enhance team capacity in problem-solving and strategic thinking.Drive accountability and performance with staff at all levels, including creating clear goals and performance measures. Community & Partnership EngagementBuild and sustain relationships with community stakeholders, funders, and local organizations advancing support for youth initiatives in parallel with the CEO and Chief Advancement Officer.Manage team to deliver high quality experiences to position BGCN as ‘Charity, Partner and Employer of Choice’.Serve as a representative of the organization, advocating for youth and supporting their needs in the community. Financial & Resource ManagementConduct budget planning and monitor financial performance, identifying opportunities for cost savings and driving efficiencies through system enhancements.Work closely with Finance, Development, and Human Resources to maintain financial health and ensure sound fiscal management.Ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements and manage facilities, ensuring safe and efficient operations.Oversight and responsibility for facility maintenance, repairs, and risk management. Board & Committee SupportIn collaboration with the CEO or at the direction of the CEO work with board members and committees to provide updates on key initiatives and support board engagement in strategic goals.
Additional Responsibilities
Support marketing and public relations efforts to enhance visibility and trust in Club programs.Manage deliverables for grants, particularly restricted programs, ensuring compliance with BGCA and external reporting requirements. Including management of team to plan accordingly to execute programs. Manage sharing and aligning of calendars across the organization. Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.Minimum of five years’ experience in operations management with a track record of staff supervision and program management. Nonprofit experience preferred. Experience with significant growth, budget development and management, increasing members served and quality improvement.Direct experience designing and significantly growing camps, licensed childcare, teen programs, aquatics and athletics. Experience with adding a PreK program helpful. Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with experience in budget management and program evaluation.Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, capable of motivating teams and cultivating community relationships.Commitment to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County’s mission and values, with a knowledge of child development principles and best practices in youth programming.DISCLAIMER:
