Fox TV StationsFOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. Duties and Responsibilities:
Successful chief meteorologists are dynamic individuals who are curious about weather, climate change, and nature and their impact on Bay Area communities and beyond; creative in translating and presenting complex weather concepts in engaging ways for broadcast, streaming and digital platforms; and competitive in monitoring advances in forecast presentation tools, challenging themselves to be different and working to continually elevate KTVU coverage.
Serve as one of the primary presenters of weather forecasts, stories, interviews, and other content for all TV, streaming and digital platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging, and meaningful to weather consumers.Provide exemplary leadership in the newsroom, guiding other meteorologists as well as news reporters and producers on weather-related topics.Stay at the frontline of breaking weather situations, taking on field anchoring duties when assigned, to deliver live reporting that captures the veracity of the moment.Take charge of coordinating and producing compelling interview segments with experts related to weather events, ensuring content is informative and resonates with our diverse audience.Spearhead special weather report coverage, constructing in-depth stories for TV, digital, and print platforms that shine a light on significant weather events and reflect the concerns of the community.Demonstrate an exceptional capacity for researching, reporting, and writing broadcast and digital print copy when weather events warrant it, adhering to station standards, ensuring precision and clarity.Independently design, build, and maintain visually compelling and accurate weather graphics to support on-air and a variety of digital platforms, including streaming channels, social media, Connected TV apps, and other digital media.Act as the primary liaison with weather equipment vendors to coordinate system upgrades, troubleshoot issues, and explore emerging technologies.Collaborate with IT teams to ensure the proper installation, configuration, and maintenance of weather systems and software, while providing input on the purchase of new weather tools.Work closely with other departments to develop and update style guides, ensuring a cohesive and visually appealing weather presentation across all platforms.Partner with newsroom leadership to align weather forecasts with station-wide editorial strategies and breaking news coverage.Actively pitch innovative story ideas that reflect the multifaceted nature of the San Francisco Bay Area and passionately hunt for exclusive stories and scoops in the weather genre.Establish workflows and procedures for seamless operations during severe weather events, ensuring effective communication and execution.Engage with the community, building a network of connections and sources that empowers our station to be the first to report on weather events, issues, and trends that matter to our viewers.Participate in promotional activities including public appearances and community events on behalf of the station.Qualifications:
A minimum of 10 years of experience in weather reporting for broadcast and digital platforms, with a significant portion anchored in a top 10 market.
A demonstrated track record of leadership roles within a top-tier newsroom and an impeccable on-air presence.
Proven ability to manage the pressures of a fast-paced news environment and produce content under tight deadlines while upholding the highest journalistic standards.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adept at writing clear and engaging copy for on-air and online platforms, including proficiency in AP writing style.
A comprehensive understanding of the digital audience and the weather stories that resonate best with readers on KTVU’s various online platforms.
Ability to utilize advanced storytelling techniques to make complex weather concepts understandable and engaging for viewers on various platforms, including social media, streaming, and other digital formats.
A strong portfolio of work that exhibits your ability to understand and communicate complex weather phenomena and connect with a diverse audience.
A willingness to learn new skills, pitch creative ideas, and adapt to change to help grow KTVU’s audience in the quickly evolving digital landscape.

A deep connection to the San Francisco Bay Area is highly favorable—whether you grew up, attended school, or have previously worked in the region, we value your intrinsic understanding of our community, its unique weather patterns and phenomena, and its stories.
An AMS Certification or Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society is considered a benefit.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $220,000.00-250,000.00 annually for high cost labour markets such as but not limited to New York City and Los Angeles, $183,300.00-208,300.00 annually for all other US locations. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents.
