Our Story, From Australia to the World
Picture this: It’s 1988 and our first ‘shop’ is the boot of a Ford Bronco parked at the Beckley Market in Geelong, Australia. Inside the Bronco are denim jackets, which doesn’t sound like much—but it was the start of something big.
Growing up in Australia, our founder started Cotton On with an epic vision in mind. He wanted to take our Aussie lifestyle to the world, delivering Good along the way. That first market came and went without a sale, something that might have shaken any young entrepreneur. But, instead of letting this deter him, Nigel looked at the bigger picture and decided to switch things up. Returning a week later with a new offer, the jackets sold out. The difference? Customer obsession was now front of mind, something that we still obsess over every day and in every decision we make. By providing great value to his customer, without compromising on quality, he’d found the sweet spot.
It’s this simple beginning and the lessons learnt from those early years that forged the path for how we still work today. And it’s what set us on track to fulfilling our purpose of making a positive difference in people’s lives. Our Aussie spirit means we don’t take ourselves too seriously, except when it comes to the way we do business. The way we go about things is bold, and different, and we’re OK with that. We believe some of the best plans are made over beers in the backyard. And so for the last three decades, we did just that. That’s what put us on the map. 20,000 people. 8 brands. 22 countries. 1,500 stores. And counting.

As a valued member of our executive leadership team, the Chief Information Officer is tasked with enabling our business strategy through technology, while delivering and elevating our IT strategy across our omni-channel network, distribution centres and supports centres around the world. This is a critical role in supporting our brands to scale globally and delivering an unrivalled digital experience for our team and customers.
We’re proud of our current IT architecture with a tech stack from Tier One providers with Cloud based solutions. The Chief Information Officer will lead and empower a team of 70+ tech experts in multiple countries to be curious and innovative to protect and unlock the full potential of our tech infrastructure.
Reporting directly to our CEO, you will lead the development and implementation of our technology strategy, positioning our digital channels at the forefront of innovation. Through harnessing AI and emerging technologies, you will ensure a world-class and future-ready customer experience. Your forward thinking vision will drive digital transformation, seamlessly integrating solutions to keep us ahead of industry trends and elevate customer engagement and loyalty.
