Chief Engineer - Sustainment, Production, and Modernization Directorate

We are seeking a Chief Engineer for our Military Aircraft System’s Sustainment, Production, and Modernization directorate. You will be responsible for managing the technical execution of current programs and developing technical road maps that align with the product line growth strategy. Our Sustainment, Production, and Modernization directorate is responsible for the life cycle management of military air vehicle platforms and established air vehicle platform modifications. The directorate establishes itself as a trusted market leader with our USG and end user customers (US and foreign military). The directorate focuses on aircraft modification and production program management, sustainment and liaison engineering, and contractor logistics support. Execution of core engineering competencies in this role ensures configuration management, safety, continued airworthiness, and mission capability for the life cycles of products, focusing on modification line to end of life support.

As a Chief Engineer, you will be using your skills and technical expertise to shape the direction of our engineering and technology portfolio. Your duties will require you to identify engineering opportunities and efficiencies that modernize and streamline our production efforts. You'll be responsible for providing expert consultation and guidance for difficult and complex technical sustainment activities. Your technical responsibilities during planning, organizing, and conducting projects involves acting as a subject matter expert in your engineering discipline, but also as a generalist for all aspects of engineering. This role will be high energy and customer facing. It represents a strategic growth area for SNC. You will lead an energetic team of engineering personnel and have regular engagements with:

• Internal customers; including the director, program managers, executive
program leaders, and the business development team to create and
execute a growth strategy for existing and new platforms
• External customers; including USG program and technical leads, prime
contractors, and end users (USG and foreign military stakeholders) to align
with and exceed their expectations
• Subcontractors; including aircraft OEMs, subsystem OEMs, and service
providers to ensure appropriate support underpins SNC execution and
guarantees success

Responsibilities:

Lead SNC's effort to identify, develop, and maintain a technical road map for air vehicle systems sustainment, production and modernizationBuild and maintain customer technical relationships with key customer representatives and several major suppliers/OEMsAssist in building and maintaining the team including hiring and managing direct reports and their reportsWork with your engineering team, program managers, configuration management, certification, logistics, maintainers, operators, and functional engineering to execute program activitiesSupport SNC's engagement with multiple DoD acquisition offices including USAF and SOCOMDevelop and deliver competitive technical solutions for DoD customers

Qualifications You Must Have:

Bachelor’s of Science degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a related field and typically 14 or more years of relevant technical experienceThorough understanding of all phases of design lifecycle management to include requirements, design, integration, test, and sustainment Knowledge and understanding of industry best practices and techniques for program management of engineering and/or programs Possess advanced technical knowledge and experience; working knowledge of industry trends and historical contextDemonstrated ability to work with senior business leaders and to provide leadership within the workplace Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, including the ability to clearly express technical concepts in verbal and written forms; ability to tailor conversations to adapt to technical vs. non-technical audiencesPrior experience developing and maintaining product line technical baselines that support multiple programs, ensuring consistency, continuity, and configuration controlExperience developing technical proposals and cost volumesAbility to support program and technical reviews, and provide guidance to staff on technical solution synthesisAbility to ensure alignment between business unit pursuits & programs, strategic campaigns, focused capture efforts, and business area technology leaders and visionRelevant experience engaging potential customers, and collecting and developing requirements for programsPossess ability to develop initial concepts and scope for programsAdvanced knowledge and understanding of one or more of the following disciplines: science and engineering programs, business development, capture management, program management, acquisition processes, opportunity identification and qualificationWorking knowledge and experience with various technical matters in support of the exportability, technical determination and release of products and servicesDemonstrated passion for execution and innovation, as well as motivating others to act by creating a shared sense of vision and purpose.Ability to quickly grasp technical concepts and understand complex technical and program interdependenciesPossess a strategic mindset linking technology, execution, and businessThe ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance is required

Qualifications We Prefer:

Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, the US Department of Defense, NASA/Civil and/or US Military; with an understanding of defense, aerospace, and adjacent markets DoD or industry experience in DoD air vehicle systems and subsystemsFunctional Management experience (people, processes and tools), including experience hiring, training and mentoring technical teamsExperience across all phases of the program life cycle, from capture through design, implementation and test, production, operation, maintenance, sustainment, and demilitarizationUnderstanding of processes and procedures for Engineering Change Proposals, Service Bulletins, Engineering Technical Disposition for repairs, Safety Hazard Assessments, Technical Orders/Service information, Technical Data Packages, Liaison Engineering, Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages, and LogisticsUnderstanding of Integrity Programs including Aircraft Structural Integrity Programs and Propulsion System Integrity ProgramsExperience in negotiations with and technical management of air vehicle OEMs, subsystem OEMs and services subcontractors Presentation skills with presentation experience to senior decision-making and technical audiencesAbility to establish new and further refine existing templates, tools, and guidelines for program documentation and executionExperience ensuring compliance with ISO 9001:2000 Policies and ProcessesMaster’s degree in engineering, Business Administration or related field of study Experience developing technology and Internal Research and Development road maps and executing to themTypically 8-10 years of relevant leadership and/or project management experience

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $221,505.94 - $304,570.67. Compensation varies depending on a wide array of factors, such as candidates' key skills, relevant work experience, and education/training/certifications. The disclosed range estimate may be adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.

SNC offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
