PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION
The Chief Development Officer directs the operational, personnel and financial activities of the Blanchard Valley Health Foundation and oversees BVHS volunteer services. Works with the Foundation Board of Trustees to further articulate the Foundation’s strategic direction for grant making, programs and partnership; assist in Board Meeting facilitation; continue to build the leadership team; and launch the Foundation’s next campaign focusing on the needs of the Blanchard Valley Health System.
The CDO reports directly to the President and CEO of Blanchard Valley Health System and to the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation. The CDO is responsible for leading and strengthening a comprehensive fundraising program in support of the Foundation’s mission and goals. The CDO is an ex-officio member of the Blanchard Valley Health Foundation Board of Trustees.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Duty 1: Develops annual measurable objectives in the areas of annual giving, capital projects and campaign donations, planned giving and grant awards.
Duty 2: Establishes and oversees policies and procedures related to the implementation and management of an effective and professional fundraising program.
Duty 3: Serves as the principal architect of the Foundation’s fundraising programs and activities and provides its primary leadership to effectively and efficiently manage staff overseeing specific programs.
Duty 4: Ensures fundraising is conducted with the highest ethical standards and is compliant with all laws and regulations that affect charitable giving.
Duty 5: Executes monthly reconciliation of unrestricted, endowed, grant, scholarship and special funds to ensure accurate spending.
Duty 5: Maintains an active portfolio of major donor prospects and is responsible for a program of personal visits, relationship development, solicitation and stewardship activities.
Duty 6: Serves as the Foundation’s primary advocate and spokesperson in the local and regional community and, therefore, increases awareness, understanding and appreciation of the Foundation, the Hospital, the nursing homes, the Primary Care Centers and all aspects of Blanchard Valley Health System.
Duty 7: Works to build partnerships with: BVHS administration, medial staff, board members, associates, volunteers, and community leaders in order to effectively solicit individual and corporate gifts.
Duty 8: Ensures that donor directives and wishes are upheld.
Duty 9: Prepares and manages an annual operating and capital budget.
Duty 10: Participates in community activities, Health System and Foundation committees, and other endeavors to become integrated into the community and Health System.
Duty 11: Oversees the Volunteer Services Manager for Blanchard Valley Health System. Provides direction for all volunteer relations.
Duty 12: Performs other duties deemed appropriate for this position.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum of five years of increasingly responsible fundraising experience, preferably in a healthcare setting with evidence of continued growth through education and participation in professional fundraising organizations.
• Experience leading a team and fostering a collaborative culture while ensuring professional development of direct reports
• Ability to build rapport and cultivate relationships with individual, corporate and foundation philanthropists while aligning donor interests and priorities
• Ability to passionately articulate the impact of philanthropy in sustaining BVHS in its mission of Extraordinary People and Exceptional Care

A valid driver's license is required (if you do not have a valid Ohio driver’s license you must obtain one within 30 days of your residency in the state). You must also meet BVHS's company fleet policy and insurance company requirements, and any other requirements that may be required to operate a vehicle.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent activities in walking, sitting, lifting, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting and standing. The associate must be able to lift 50 pounds or more. This position requires excellent eye-hand coordination, grasping, pushing, pulling and fine finger manipulation. The individual must be able to reach work above the shoulder. The associate must have corrected vision, hearing in the normal range and excellent verbal communication skills
