CHIEF CLINICAL OFFICER (CCO) | Toledo, OH

The Chief Clinical Officer, Market (CCO) is responsible for overseeing clinical operations in a Bon Secours Mercy Health Market, including all areas where professional medical/clinical practice occurs, and medical resources are deployed in the Market.  The CCO, Market has functional responsibility for operationalizing and implementing system-set, group-set clinical strategies and market clinical strategies and BSMH goals.  This position is accountable to provide strategic insight at the Market level as assigned by the Chief Clinical Officer at the Group level in the ministry.

Essential Functions

Serve as the executive clinical leader over the clinical strategy at the market Level.  Lead the Market in the continuation of achieving high clinical quality to meet patient safety, clinical quality and service excellence standards and maintain strong partnerships among the physicians.  Ensure strong operational and financial performance within the Market for the clinical function.

Lead in a changing environment with a focus on stabilization of market operational issues while remaining in alignment with the strategic plan of the ministry. Use best practice principles to promote professional clinical practice connecting the continuum of care. Develop professional clinical leaders to create succession planning and empower clinical staff to exceed clinical quality, patient safety and the environment of care. 

Oversee and provide strategic guidance and coaching for Market Clinical leaders.

Oversee reporting related to clinical performance and present as needed to executive and senior leaders.

Recommend the establishment and implementation of policies and procedures that drive towards meeting the goals set by the Group Chief Clinical Officer.  Leads market leaders in creating, promoting and maintaining positive associate relations and a culture of high reliability, dignity, respect and inclusion. Ensure that all policies, practices and procedures foster a safe and secure work environment and the equitable resolution of workplace issues.

Coordinate key points of collaboration for alignment of new ministry strategy to be operationalized in the Market.  Develop strong working relationship with the following (including but not limited to): Group Chief Clinical Officer, Market President; Market Strategy Director, Market Chief Nursing Officer, Market Chief Financial Officer; Market Associate General Counsel; Market VP, Human Resources; Market Chief Operations Officer; Care-Site Level Chief Medical Officers and Chiefs of Staff; Other leaders from Population Health and Clinical Operations as appropriate.

REQUIRED

- M.D. or D.O.

- Ohio Medical License (or ability to obtain)

- 10 years of progressively responsible and complex professional experience in clinical/medical management function, including a minimum of 4-5 years in management.  Prior experience as a Chief Clinical Officer in a market is desirable.

- Strategic planning, population health, clinical value-based care, budget (financial analysis) and change management

PREFERRED:

- MBA or MHA

- Certified Physician Executive

- Clinical experience in a large multiple-site healthcare system including unions, is desirable.
