*Please note that to be considered for this role a candidate must have a Standard Building Plans Examiner License and one or more of the following licenses: Standard Inspector (any trade), Standard Mechanical Commercial Plans Examiner; Standard Plumbing Commercial Plans Examiner; Standard Electrical Commercial Plans Examiner License; Standard Residential Family Inspector License; Standard Residential Family Dwelling Plans Examiner License.  (Standard licenses for Plans Examiner or Inspector must be issued by the State of Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation – DBPR).Up to $3,000 relocation available for those moving 50+ miles to join the premier community where people choose to live, work, and play!

Provide a skilled review of residential, commercial, and miscellaneous construction for the purpose of ensuring compliance with established building codes and regulations.  Provide approval and/or denial of various permits and ensures the accurate recording of all permits issued.  Consult all applicable professional and official manuals, references, and code books in researching plans compliance, i.e., all construction disciplines, safety codes, fire resistance, hurricane resistance, energy codes, zoning regulations, state statutes, etc. Provide overall leadership and management of operations relating to Plans Review for the Building Division. Plan, organize, and direct the activities of professional, technical, and clerical personnel engaged in the compilation, analysis, interpretation, and enforcement of codes relating to building, electrical, mechanical, gas, plumbing, etc.  Prepare interpretations for implementation and enforcement of codes with the Building Official.  Resolve code disputes among various parties related to code and ordinance compliance.  Promote and educate the community on the Florida Building Code. Develop and maintain proactive, effective, and trustworthy working relationships with community partners, as well as other external and internal customers.Contact contractors, developers, design professionals or property owners for the purpose of providing recommendations for corrections/modifications prior to issuance of applicable permitting.Provide information to contractors, developers, engineers, architects, owners and the general public concerning building practices, building codes and permitting requirements.  Will provide and maintain an excellent customer service standard in answering questions from the public pertaining to building issues, codes and ordinances and interface positively with peers, co-workers, and other customers across the enterprise.Perform reports and records maintenance duties (i.e.:  applications, rejection reports, projects completed, production reports and case studies).  Determine inspections required to bring about compliance and for permit issuance.Manage proactive assessments of fraud awareness, prevention, detection and risk mitigation activities in area of responsibility; oversees financial, compliance, operational and performance  audits; reviews audit findings and ensures appropriate controls are established and implemented.

Work Hours Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Work schedules may vary due to split shifts, rotations, on-call, emergencies, etc.  Work schedule will be split in both office locations (North County - BOB Building & South County RL Anderson) as set by the Deputy Building Official and/or Building Official.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of related experience.-OR- Associate degree and 6 years of job-related experience.-OR- Year-for-year experience may substitute for the college degree combined with 4-6 years of experience performing plans reviews.  Two (2) or more of those years must be supervisory experience.Must have Standard Building Plans Examiner License and one or more of the following licenses: Standard Inspector (any trade), Standard Mechanical Commercial Plans Examiner; Standard Plumbing Commercial Plans Examiner; Standard Electrical Commercial Plans Examiner License; Standard Residential Family Inspector License; Standard Residential Family Dwelling Plans Examiner License.  (Standard licenses for Plans Examiner or Inspector must be issued by the State of Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation – DBPR).Valid Florida driver’s license at time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

Multiple Standard Plans Examiner licenses issued by the State of Florida DBPR in the following trades, Building, Plumbing, Electrical and/or Mechanical Plans Examiner. Licensure as Building Code Administrator as issued by the State of Florida DBPR

Subject to Passing Substance Screening:  This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.  An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment for a period of five (5) years.

E-Work/Hybrid Work: Currently this position is eligible to e-work up to 2 days per week! After you complete your first six months and contingent on work requirements and other factors, you’ll be eligible for this fantastic benefit.

About Everything Else

Starting Pay Range: $80,000.00 - $93,000.00/year, based on your experience

Full Position Salary Range (future earning potential): $74,484.80 - $126,630.40/year
