Chess Coach
Posting Number: S06201P Department: Chess Salary Range: $65,000 - $70,000 Pay Basis: Monthly Position Status: Regular full-time Location: Richardson Job Description: The Chess Coach at the University of Texas at Dallas will assist the Director of Chess in the management and oversight of the Chess Program at the University of Texas at Dallas. This includes but is not limited to, the implementation of chess team training programs that develop critical thinking, sportsmanship, and excellence in high-level collegiate chess competitions. Furthermore, fosters a community of strategic thinkers and passionate players who excel both on and off the chessboard, including promoting the intellectual and social benefits of chess through competitive play, educational programs, and community outreach. This includes utilizing a high degree of independent judgment and discretion in the unique responsibilities that include but are not limited to, team management, curriculum design, instruction, tournaments, recruiting, community outreach events, and other activities. Candidates are required to have a very high level of knowledge and skill in chess that may only be achieved by a prolonged history of intellectual growth in chess through instruction and experience. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree and two (2) years of related experience. Awarded the title of Grandmaster (GM) by the International Chess Federation ( FIDE ). Minimum peak International Chess Federation rating of 2600. Preferred Education and Experience: Preferred Education and Experience: • Four or more years of general coaching experience with competitive players. • Able to travel with players regularly. • Experience coaching and training players with International Master or Grandmaster titles. • Experience working with both men and women titled players. • Conducted group lectures or training camps. • Experience assisting with the management of a chess program, preferably at a highly ranked chess program in a university setting.
