Position Summary:

Level One:  Level one chemline operators, under direct supervision, will be expected to perform a variety of support functions for the chemline processing department, including but not limited to racking, un-racking, and cleaning of production aerospace parts. Other responsibilities will include maintaining a clean and organized work area, as well as adherence to organization safety rules and regulations. Level one chemline operators will also be performing verifications ensuring that all traces of organic soils, fingerprints, dirt and dust etc. are removed by using solvent cleaners. Typically, 0-1 years of experience.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Obtain job assignments from supervisor or manager.Work safely in accordance to plant safety guidelines including cardinal rules of safety.Adheres to quality processes including in-process inspection to ensure compliance with quality specifications.Correctly interpret work ordersReviews Technique Cards and paperwork.Visually inspects castings for core material, scale, sand and other contaminants; may reject parts for chemical milling and reroute for cleaning.Measures specified areas on castings using dimensional measuring devices and/or Ultrasonic Thickness testing equipment to determine amount of stock to be removed; records measurements.to take samples of chemical baths, make corrections, neutralize, pump and build baths prior milling to assure conformance to process control specifications; to test tank pumping systems prior to operation.Checks daily lab analysis to determine if bath chemistry is within specification ranges; checks bath temperature.Calculates etch rate using standard formula.Adds acid to bath in order to bring chemistry up to specifications, using standard formulas; adjusts surface tension as needed.Checks operations of circulation pumps; checks for leaks; troubleshoots and reviews pumping diagrams if needed.Pumps spent tank solutions to neutralization facility; cleans and rinses tanksSubmerges castings in chemical tanks using tumblers, fixtures and hoists; submerges castings into a nitric-hydrofluoric acid solution in accordance with Process Control Procedures.Monitors milling operations; calculates etch rate and modified bath times accordingly.Removes masking tape; places dried parts on pallets.Removes castings, rinses and transfers to drying ovens.Completes logs and records, including measurements, calculations, chemical additions and milling times.Meets all production and quality standards.
Work in a team environment, i.e. follow instructions and assist others as needed.Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly conditionPerform daily housekeeping / 6S activities as requiredPerforms other duties as requested by supervisor or manager.

 

Required Skills:

Basic English language skills and the ability to read, follow, and interpret planning and work order instructionsThe ability to perform basic shop math, fractions, decimalsThe ability to use basic inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, etc.The ability to read and interpret work instructions and basic prints and dimensionsThe ability to operate forklift, overhead crane, pallet jack, and fixtures.Meet minimal requirement on Wyman Gordon internal assessments

 

Experience & Education

Minimal 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment; prior military experience; or technical certification / degreeGED or High School diplomaSuccessfully passed Vision, Written and Practical examinations for Level 1 or 2 in at least one method within a 12-month period.

 

Working Conditions:

Constant exposure to indoor manufacturing environment Constant exposure to moderate noise Exposure to hazardous chemical environment Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes, odors, hot / cold temperatures, inside / outside noise vibration, standing on concrete for long hours and wet or uneven surfaces. Must be able to work any shift including overtime, weekends and holidays if scheduled. Position will be an off shift position.

 

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds on a repetitive basis.Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist and work at heights on an intermittent basis for up to twelve (12) hours.Requires hand manipulation including simple grasping, pushing and pulling of materials.Must be able to safety operate an overhead crane and forklift.Must be able to reach and work above and below the shoulder level.Must be able to work with and around forklifts and hazardous machinery.Must be able to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
