Life Cycle Assessment, Circular Economy, and Decarbonization are exciting new areas of growth for Eastman as we seek to improve the quality of life in a material way and steer a sustainable portfolio of products and technologies. LCA is providing new types of opportunities and career options for chemical engineers who have a passion for sustainability coupled with interest in the interfaces between technology, marketing, business and external stakeholders.
This position is for an experienced chemical engineer to serve in Eastman's Life Cycle Assessment and Circular Economy group within Technology.
1.) Complete environmental life cycle assessment (LCA) modeling for current and future products and processes of Eastman and our competitive space. This includes the calculation of carbon footprints and other LCA metrics.
2.) Develop and apply expertise in state-of-the-art LCA and circularity metrics, including standards, emerging methodologies and software to generate value-adding results in the face of technical and market complexity. Contribute to development, testing and external advocacy for new methodologies.
3.) Partner with colleagues in marketing, businesses, HSES, manufacturing, corporate sustainability, company leadership and other functions to leverage LCA insights to create and drive growth, defend core businesses and influence positive change.
4.) Advance Eastman’s decarbonization strategy through identification and prioritization of projects most impactful to product level environmental metrics that intersect greatest business needs.
5.) Maintain competence in emissions factor selection for corporate emissions reporting, including the engagement of suppliers and vetting of their declared emission factors. Provide documentation to achieve assurance of Eastman’s emissions.
6.) Lead projects with external consultants to achieve 3rd party certification of Eastman LCA's
7.) Directly support customers on LCA and technical sustainability matters.
8.) Enable Eastman's chemical recycling programs by providing technical development and support for the mass balance systems that are used to track recycle content through complex manufacturing systems across multiple sites.
9.) Provide engineering support for International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) certification of Eastman's chemical recycling efforts. Ensure compliance verification through successful completion of ISCC audits.
Job Duties include computer simulation, proactive data collection from diverse sources, interpretation of LCA results, co-development of marketing messages, expert consultation with diverse stakeholders, direct customer support, and ISCC technical and audit support.
