CERTIFIED REGISTERED NURSE PRACTITIONER

Job Summary

The Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) is responsible for overseeing the psychiatric needs of children and adolescents and adults, with a primary focus on children and adolescents. The position includes conducting formal and informal assessments, clinical interviews, and developing treatment plans and medication regimens for children, adolescents, and adults with complex mental or emotional problems. Duties may include facilitating groups, conducting educational workshops and service training for staff. The Nurse Practitioner will adhere to evidence-based practice guidelines, professional standards, and state and federal requirements. This position will be expected to take calls on an assigned, rotating schedule that includes weekdays, weekends, nights, and holidays.

Job Duties

Asses patients by reviewing patient records, interviewing patient and family to determine health and psychiatric status and take a history, consult reference materials as needed to identify symptoms, make diagnoses and develop approaches to treatment Collaboratively develop treatment plans including type, frequency, intensity and duration of therapy and evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment and modify the plan as necessary Order appropriate medical tests as required within the limits of the practitioner’s license. In the hospital, they observe individuals, perform daily rounds and participate in daily team meetings. In Outpatient, see clients on a regular basis, perform psychiatric evaluations, provide medication management and participate in team meetings. Provide counseling and instruction regarding patient’s psychiatric and health concerns Prescribe medications or implement physician’s recommendations within established practice standards, monitor effectiveness, and educate staff, patient/client and family members on potential benefits and possible side effects. Modify the medication regimen as necessary based on the patient’s response to therapy. Provide any information required to facilitate authorization of medications Accurately document clinical findings utilizing KidsPeace templates for psychiatric evaluations or updates, medication reviews, progress notes, discharge summaries and other such documentation. Ensure that services provided are documented in a complete and timely manner. Complete any required insurance enrollment documents to appropriately bill for services rendered Initiate appropriate evaluation and management of emergent or urgent situations. Respond to emergencies in a timely manner and follow up with recommendations Maintain a documented cooperative relationship with a KidsPeace medical staff psychiatrist. Participate in medical staff committees and functions as assigned Provide supervision to students as assigned through established KidsPeace university affiliation agreements. Develop, direct and participate in staff training programs. Develop and present case studies, journal articles or topics of interest for educational forums as requested Participating in the established on call rotation including weekdays, weekends, nights and holidays, accepting short-term assignments in other locations and/or services based on the needs of the organization; participating in utilization review activities and in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Quality Assessment/Improvement (Q.A.I) and peer review standards

Qualifications

A Master’s degree as a Nurse Practitioner is required. Specialty in Psychiatry preferred One to two years post-graduate clinical experience with experience in a mental health setting preferred Experience with acute emotionally challenged children or adolescents preferred Must possess and maintain a valid, current and unrestricted license to practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner Must be credentialed to serve on the Medical Staff Must be at least 21 years of age Valid driver's license required
