Certified Occupational Therapy Asst (COTA) - SJH

Summary:  Administers prescribed occupational therapy programs under the direction and supervision of a licensed occupational therapist to restore function, prevent disability following disease, injury or loss of body part; help patients reach maximum performance while learning to live within the limits of his/her capabilities.  Supervises supportive personnel and students in their performance of patient/resident care services and treatments, as requested under supervision of OTR/L.

Education: In addition to the skills normally obtained through completion of a High School education, an Associate’s Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program is required. 

Licensure: Current Rhode Island licensure.

Experience: Preferred, but not required.

Working Conditions, Physical Environment and/or Safety Requirements: Clean, well-lighted, and well-ventilated area.  Exposed daily to disagreeable odors, sights of bodily wastes and contaminated equipment.  May be exposed to infectious diseases and/or bodily harm from combative patients.  Required to carry, push, pull equipment as well as turn, transfer, and assist patients with ADLs and/or therapeutic (PROM and AROM) exercise.  Required to use eyes, hands, and fingers with skill in administering therapy evaluations and treatments, and completing progress notes, reports, summaries, and letters.  Follows safety regulations, Infection Control policies, and Universal Precautions.  Regular Staff is required to work the hours for which hired including weekend and holidays coverage if that is part of the operations of the department.  Per Diem Staff is required to work tow (2) shifts per month as the needs of the department dictate. Must meet annual safety training requirements per hospital policy.
