Certified Nurse Midwife - PRN

The Certified Nurse Midwife is responsible for providing care in an advanced practice nursing role, under approved protocols of a recognized certifying body. As approved by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing, the Certified Nurse Midwife is authorized to manage the nurse midwifery care of newborns and women in the antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, as well as primary care for women across their lifespan. Provides medical management in an obstetric and gynecologic setting for adults and newborn children.

GENERAL DUTIES

Facilitates and maintains a safe environment for patients and others:

Performs the priority technical skills/procedures required by the area/department/assignment safely and by maintaining compliance.Performs selected invasive procedures for therapeutic and/or diagnostic reasons within scope of practice and scope of validated competence.

Utilizes the nursing process to deliver patient care:

Assesses the physical condition of patients by performing physical examinations and obtaining medical histories.Formulates the plan of care and prognosis based on patient’s condition.Plans appropriate care, formulates treatment plan, and evaluates patient’s response to that care as directed.Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess the patient’s clinical health care needs.Performs selected invasive procedures for therapeutic and/or diagnostic reasons within scope of practice and scope of validated competence.

Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to identify actions to improve patient care:

Seeks supervision, consultation, assistance when unable to perform effectively or safely independently.Collaborates with physicians and other members of the multi-disciplinary team in a productive manner emphasizing safety, quality, and teamwork.Acts as a liaison and effectively interacts with physicians and staff.

Facilitates continuity of care:

Initiates and/or maintains interventions to ensure continuity of safe/effective care of patients.Counsels patients, families, and significant others about health and illness and promotes maintenance.Documents consistent with established guidelines. Complies with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of care.


EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

Required: 2 years of full scope midwifery practice.


EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

Required: Successful completion of an accredited Nurse Midwifery program.
