Central Sterile Intern

Under general supervision, but in accordance with established policies and procedures provides assistance to other department personnel regarding drying of case carts, placing filters into the Genesis containers cleaning of work stations and counters, peel pack items for sterilizing, putting away clean returns, putting away sterile trays on the shelves, assist in stocking shelves, loading racks into the instrument washers and placing soiled case carts into the cart washer. Also trained in performing in the Decontamination Area of Sterile Processing.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED equivalent. Or must be a senior in high school and be enrolled in a correspondence course such as  Purdue University Correspondence or  enroll in the Ivy Tech SPD Tech Program.  Must have basic analytical skills and be able to able to make decisions under pressure On the job learning for the sterile processing environment Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with physicians and other hospital personnel. Numerical/clerical ability necessary to assemble the proper number of peel packs and supplies for inventory Manual and physical dexterity to handle various instruments/equipment and to withstand prolonged periods of standing, walking and moving carts. Must attain CBSPD/IAHCSMM Certification within 18 months of completing correspondence course or classroom training course.
