CEF Lead Person Production

POSITION DESCRIPTION:  The role of the Production Lead at Rose Acre Farms is one that entails a wide variety of responsibilities. Although the house manager is responsible for only one or two houses, he or she still has a large amount of responsibility, as the house manager must ensure that all production, egg weight, and feed efficiency goals are met. Furthermore, he or she will monitor and track feed usage, layer mortality, egg weights and sizes, and finally constantly monitor the houses for any sign of a potential disease. Although the well-being of the birds is the first priority on the quartile manager’s daily list, he or she will work with the house employees on problems with belts, egg jams, cleanliness, and manure pits.  The Lead may be asked to assist the quartile manager in the evaluating and if necessary, reprimanding employees. All duties are to be performed in an exemplary and professional manner.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Responsible for managing a set of chicken houses (includes production, feed, water, pits, mortality, and managing house staff.)Responsible for working with quartile managers to ensure that the goals for the house are being met and that everything is running efficiently.Responsible for filling in when employees miss, quit or take vacations.Responsible for monitoring house workers to ensure that they are following procedure, completing their work, and are following Rose Acre policies.Responsible for managing employees in his or her quartile, scheduling them, and assisting upper management in evaluating them.Responsible for working with production managers to ensure goals are met.Responsible for working with the Rose Acre Feed Efficiency Specialist to ensure that the correct feed ratio and ingredients are being utilized in the houses and that the birds are getting the proper nutrition for their age.Responsible for reporting ANY problem in his or her quartile that is beyond normal duties to the quartile manager IMMEDIATELY.Responsible for monitoring temperatures and continually checking AEI counter machines to ensure that all operations with the houses are running smoothly.Responsible for filling out all necessary paperwork and ensuring that it is distributed and sent to the correct areas. This may include using a computer and fax machine. (General computer training will be provided if needed.)

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

High school education is desired – previous experience in layer house operations, farming or grain operations, or general agricultural experience is highly desired.Must be able to work with live animals and continually have their health and well-being at the top of the daily list. (All house workers must continually monitor three essential items – feed, water, and temperatures.)Must be able to perform misc. management job functions – must be able to make quick and rational decisions in dealing with personnel, equipment, etc., and must be able to direct questions or problems that are above the quartile manager’s jurisdiction to a higher manager. If a situation occurs where the house manager cannot make the decision, he or she must direct it to the quartile manager who in turn may direct it to the complex manager.Must have excellent communication and people skills – must be able to motivate other house employees to fulfill their job to the best of their ability.Must have a basic knowledge of electricity and its function in the layer houses.Must be capable or be capable of learning how to perform maintenance on a variety of equipment – such as egg and feed conveying systems.Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays as needed at the plant.Must be capable of treating ALL employees in the complex with respect and courtesy.Must ensure that ALL Rose Acre Employee Handbook policies are followed, and MUST be capable of reprimanding any employee who violates Rose Acre Policy.Must be able to follow all Rose Acre safety and biosecurity standards thoroughly, and MUST report ANY violation of these policies to the complex manager. Ability to handle multiple tasks at once – the ability to deal with stressful situation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Must possess the ability to work in an agricultural environment, indoors, outdoors, office, warehouse, processing, and farm production areas each varying in temperature, and other environment specific atmospheres.Must be willing and able to work past the scheduled leave time to complete the job, if needed.Must possess the ability to work in an open office setting.Must maintain professionalism with coworkers.
