We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, experienced and innovative person for the position of Cataloguing and Metadata Librarian to describe information resources, create bibliographic and item records for all library resources, perform original and copy cataloguing, enable the discovery of information resources and to enhance the accessibility of the resources.The position is part of the cataloguing team in the Directorate: Information Resources, Access and Operations.Brief DescriptionQualifications and Required Skills: B.Bibl, BInf degree or Bachelor s Degree plus Postgraduate Diploma in LIS and/orHonours in LIS (Library and Information Science), with 4 years experience in the fieldof cataloguing and descriptive structures in academic or research libraries
Knowledge and skills: Knowledge and application of library tools (Anglo American Cataloguing Rules(AARC2), RDA, MARC21 coding, WorldCat (OCLC), Library of Congress Classification Scheme, Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), National Library of Medicine (NLM) Classification Scheme, Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), Online Cataloguing Library Cooperative (OCLC)) and concepts and methodologies of description and quality management. Knowledge and understanding of international resource description and access standards. Knowledge of international cataloguing and classification methods Knowledge and understanding of ILS (Integrated Library Systems) Knowledge in bibliographic and authority control. Ability to apply and interpret international resource description and access standards. Ability to use all relevant printed and digital tools applicable to a specific standard. Ability to understand the change process and how it will impact daily activities. Ability to change strategies/behaviours in response to changing priorities and conditions. Ability to maintain a conducive atmosphere for job productivity and satisfaction where team goals are aligned to meet library objectives. Ability to analyse specific subject contents. Ability to convert analysed content to subject headings. Ability to convert analysed content to classification numbers. Knowledge and understanding of reference sources, e.g., national bibliographies. Ability to use reference sources. Knowledge and understanding of technical infrastructure to support digital resources. Knowledge of concepts associated with digital resources. Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities Record keeping skills. Training skills.

Responsibilities: Accurately catalogue various library materials, including books, periodicals, multimedia, using AACR2, RDA, and MARC-21 according to international standards Create metadata and enrich keywords, to link research output towards relevant indicators of the goals and targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Create original bibliographic records and perform original cataloguing as required Utilize OCLC and other library databases for copy cataloguing, maintaining consistency and accuracy in catalogue records. Develop the information resources description directives and guidelines Update descriptive records on the relevant Integrated Library systems Update and maintain authority records for consistent subject headings and author names in the catalogue in compliance with international standards Research, analyse and select subject descriptions to propose subject headings forinternational databases Maintain the catalogue by investigating and analysing non-compliance of data andstandardising non-compliance in structured information records Conduct regular quality checks to ensure catalogued records' accuracy and completeness. Compile reports, statistics and internal documentation
