We are looking for a strong addition to our Casualty Claims Team to jointly work toward our Global Claims Ambition 2025+.
Within our Global Claims Organisation, our team is responsible for active management of worldwide Casualty reinsurance claims from our Global Clients underwritten out of Munich.
This includes evaluation and management of large loss complexes, maintaining beneficial client claims relationships as well as interacting with the Global Organisation and providing lessons learned and other claims services to internal and external stakeholders including Underwriting and Client Management.
Your Job
Management and legal review of major and complex international casualty claims predominantly emanating from general liability, product liability, pharmaceutical liability, environmental liability and D&O / PI (commercial and financial institutions), for our Global ClientsClaims management (assessing indemnity and quantum within defined limits of authority / ultimate estimation of major losses and ongoing review of reserves for individual losses and loss complexes) with a focus on added value. For example, by negotiating coverage, liability and allocation issues, initiating subrogation and liaising with other Munich Re international organisations (predominantly Munich Re America and Munich Re UK) Servicing, advising and monitoring our cedents with regards to claims matters. In particular, conducting claims reviews and visits at client offices, also in cooperation with other Munich Re international teamsUsage of new technologies and alternative solutions for Claims related portfolio analysis as well as support in development and distribution of Claims Digital ServicesMonitoring and reporting of legislative changes, legal trends and their impact on claims management for Munich ReProviding support for Client Management and Underwriting (Claims feedback and lessons learned, trend detection, and advising on wording issues, etc.)Fostering expertise and synergies through cooperation within the Claims unitsActive contribution to working groups, in-/external workshops and events on current claims topicsYour Profile
US degree as attorney at law (or comparable long-time practical experience in the area required) or comparable university degree in legal studies (preferably with a common law background)Experience in handling (international) casualty claims and/or casualty underwriting in insurance and/or reinsuranceUnderstanding of related insurance and reinsurance coverage interpretation, loss reserving, loss report management, litigation management and client relationship managementStrategic thinking and ability to get to the core of complex legal and economic matters combined with strong analytical skills, as well as the ability to work systematically and independentlyResult focused and solution oriented with very good negotiating and conflict management skills, ability to take decisions and to be a good team playerWillingness to travel internationally on occasion – sometimes also on short noticeExcellent command of written and spoken business English, other languages (esp.
