**Description:**
**Shift Schedule: Monday-Friday, 10a-2p.**
**Job Summary:**
This position is responsible for the daily posting of Hospital insurance payments and contractual adjustments, and payments from patients, to the respective entity Account Receivables. A daily bank deposit is required for the hospital. The insurance payments do not include the major payers of Blue Cross, Medicare, and Priority Health. The method of posting for the Hospital can be electronic (patient pay) and manual (insurance). Other forms of business include Dunewood Pharmacy, and Cafeteria.
Secondary responsibilities may include responding to patient questions
(walk-in’s),and explaining minimal information regarding Uncompensated Care. The accurate and timely retrieval and release of a patient’s health information.
**Minimum Skills, Experience and Educational Requirements**
1. An overall understanding of and experience with:
+ Cash posting preferably with health insurance and Hospital business.
+ Insurance payments and insurance vouchers.
+ Insurance “Explanation of Benefits”.
+ General medical and insurance terminology.
+ Explaining patient account activity.
+ Meditech is preferred.
+ Electronic cash posting.
+ Excellent communication and telephone skills.
2. Excellent accounting and cash posting skills.
3. Ability to work as part of a team effort.
4. Must be computer literate and detail oriented.
5. Must be able to accept different job assignments as needed.
6. Ability to sit for extended periods of time, deal with frequent interruptions, and stay on task.
7. High school graduate with courses in business, computers, bookkeeping and accounting.
8. Ability to communicate – read, write, and speak effectively.
**Critical Demands of the Job**
1. Must be able to sit approximately 70% of the day as required.
2. Must be able to type/keyboard at least 60% of the day as required.
3. Must be able to open file cabinet drawers using push/pull force.
4. Must be able to lift 40 lbs to a maximum 4 – 5 feet.
**Essential Job Functions:**
1. Participate, communicate, interact and assist patients, the public, employees (inter and intra departmental),
supervisory, management and administrative personnel with a positive effect on all.
2. Manually post daily insurance payments and contractual adjustments for Hospital business accurately.
3. Electronically post daily patient payments through Hospital Bank System for hospital business accurately.
4. Complete daily bank deposit for Hospital prior to 1:00p.m. deadline.
5. Include other business in daily bank deposit.
6. Greet and process walk-in patients (for payments or questions) with courtesy and professionalism.
7. Ability to accurately respond to patient questions regarding patient questions.
8. Ability to explain uncompensated care program.
9. Maintains highest standard of accuracy, while performing duties in a timely manner.
10. Must be flexible, adaptable and capable of making appropriate judgment calls in a variety if situations.
11. Maintains confidentiality of patients, employees, and visitors, according to hospital policies and procedures,
with no violations.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.
