Cash Application Associate
GFL Environmental is looking for a Cash Application Associate to join our team out of our Southfield office! The Cash Application Associate will work alongside the Cash Application Team to post high volumes and large varieties of payments received via multiple forms, review Customer Refund requests, research payments received without remittances, and ensure payments are posted accurately and timely. They will also locate missing payments and follow established guidelines while working as a team to provide professional, efficient service on customer accounts.



 

Key Responsibilities:

Review/Resolve within Lockbox items Lockbox processors cannot correctly identifyAccurately post all incoming payments to the proper customer and/or General Ledger accounts within established processing guidelinesProvide support and training to internal and external co-workers on use of Ebill/Enrollment applicationsAssist customer service by locating and remedying customer's misapplied paymentsUpdate customer accounts and General Ledger payments when checks are not honored by bankProvide research and corrections of misposted payments and other information as necessaryAnalyze, reconcile and resolve accounting discrepancies in cash application batches and customer accountsPrepare, log and maintain records and reports of the deposits, processed payments, adjustments and correctionsAssist with the research of Unapplied Cash (UAC) on active and canceled accountsProcess requests debit and credit entries as needed as well as moving monies between customer accountsVerify accuracy and validity of request for refunds and updated Customer accounts accordinglyDevelop and maintain spreadsheets and forms as necessaryEffective and efficient navigation and use of Excel, Word, Internet, Outlook and applications such as Cash Apps Import, and applications specific to Cash Applications processingAct as back-up to the Mailroom Coordinator – acceptance and delivery of incoming mail, sorting of mail, preparing outgoing mail for mailing, preparing Express mail for pick-upConform in all respects with applicable federal, state/provincial and local laws, regulations, ordinances and other orders and to all company policies, procedures and directives from supervisors


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

High School diploma or general education degree (GED) requiredAccounting Associates degree preferred2+ years of experience working in accounting or with high volume applications of payments received via various meansStrong math skills are a must with the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio and percentagesExcellent oral and written communication skillsAbility to read and interpret documents/ instructions and procedure manuals, compose memos, reports and correspondence is requiredAbility to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram formAbility to accurately produce and excel in a fast-paced ever-changing environment maintaining very high degree of accuracy and speedExcellent organizational skills, ability to quickly prioritize and readjust prioritization as necessaryProficient knowledge of Microsoft Office-Outlook, Word and ExcelAbility to problem solve and think critically
