Carpenter Painter Mason

ASRC Federal Field Services, a Subsidiary of ASRC Federal Holding Company, is currently seeking a Carpenter/ Painter/ Mason at the Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center, located on Plum Island, NY. (1.5 nautical miles off North Fork of Long Island & 6 nautical miles off coast of Old Saybrook, CT).  Marine transportation furnished by Government provided ferry.

 

Summary:

Provide support to operations and maintenance functions at research facility. Work as a team member or independently on a variety of painting and general repair tasks throughout the laboratory. Specific area of work assignments are dedicated to maintenance of animal holding areas within research laboratory. Painting and repair assignments throughout building occur as well. May provide guidance to trades helper in performance of work projects. Work is performed in a biocontainment laboratory environment. Work with masonry construction materials and a variety of masonry equipment to complete large and small repair and painting projects, including final finish and painting. Performs planning of specific projects to include identifying materials needs to ensure efficient utilization of time and materials. Outlines work projects to ensure appropriate and correct methods of repair and/or modification is achieved. Paints walls, fixtures and ceilings. Applies plaster or compound to patch holes and cracks in walls and ceiling to ensure bio-integrity of individual rooms. Roles/Responsibilities:

Must be able to wear a respirator for painting. Determine suitable method for ensuring achievement of bio-integrity goals in applying sealant materials. Prepare surface for painting by removing old finish or by placing putty or filler in nail holes and interstices and applying paint with spray gun or brush. Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your whole body. Utilization of appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) such as safety shoes, hard hats, hearing, and eye protection is required. Ability to climb ladders, reach overhead and lift to 50lbs. Industrial work environment that may include loud noise, heat stress, work indoors and outdoors. Perform other duties as assigned by department manager.
