Carlin - Senior Environmental Engineer, Land

Position Description:

Our people division is growing, and we are looking for a Senior Environmental Engineer at our Carlin Operations. The successful candidate will ensure that all legal and other compliance obligations related to land, reclamation, and closure are achieved.

Responsibilities:

Coordinate with site personnel and the NGM permitting team to successfully develop Plan of Operations amendments and complete associated NEPA activities including archeological, cultural, wildlife, and other baseline studies.  Successfully implement and manage EIS/ROD Requirements. Lead and develop Environmental Engineers, Coordinators and Technicians Engage with regulatory agencies and other external stakeholders.  Ensure completion of annual reports, three-year updates and reclamation permit modifications. Plan and drive reclamation and closure projects to aid in reducing long-term company liabilities.  Direct wildlife surveying and reporting activities for sensitive species. Oversee the weed abatement program. Support the spatial data management (GIS) for the Department. Ensure conformance with the Barrick Mine Closure Standard requirements. Collaborate with Operations personnel to ensure the successful implementation of the mine plan and other site objectives. Assist with training of NGM employees, contractors, and others. Budget management including development, forecasting and tracking of program costs Coordinate business partner procurement processes and direct awarded project activities as required.   Responsible for periodic, after hours on-call response to environmental incidents, as needed. This position requires the ability to regularly walk over uneven, sloped, rocky, wet or icy ground and the ability to lift 40 or more pounds consistently and safely.  Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Mine Engineering, Geology, Ecology or related field required At least seven (7) years direct experience in environmental compliance with a minimum of three (3) years in a surface and/or underground mining environment required Three (3) years of supervisory experience required. Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills required Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously required Familiarity with compliance systems and ISO 14001 preferred
