Career Services Graduate Intern (Non-CMU Student) - Heinz College

We are currently seeking a culturally responsive and highly motivated Graduate Intern to join our Career Advising team in the Reidy Career Center. As an intern, you will have the exceptional opportunity to work closely with a diverse group of graduate-level students in all our programs, providing professional development support, delivering career development presentations, and assisting with event and program creation and implementation. This role is ideal for individuals interested in student affairs and eager to gain insights into the functions of a career services office.

Your core responsibilities will include:

Providing culturally responsive advising of students on various professional development topics, such as resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, job and internship search strategies, and networking opportunities, with a focus on understanding and respecting diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences.

Conducting career-related workshops both in-person and virtually, that are inclusive and accessible, equipping students with essential skills and knowledge for diverse career paths.

Assisting in the execution of career events and programs focused on professional development.

Collaborating with the Employer Relations team to gain insights into employer engagement and recruitment strategies at the College and the university-at-large.

Communicating with students to promote events, meeting deadlines, and providing necessary support, with a focus on creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all.

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following skills:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong ability to engage effectively with students from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Demonstrated effectiveness in managing multiple responsibilities and thriving in a fast-paced environment.

Proven track record of self-starting projects and learning new tools or software as needed.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.

Comfortable working with or willingness to learn Handshake, our recruiting platform.

Capacity to efficiently collect, analyze, and present data.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED will be considered; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Enrollment in a graduate program related to higher education, student affairs, counseling, or a related field is highly desirable.

Additional Information

Fixed Term: This is a fixed term position and the selected candidate will work during the fall semester with the possibility of the role being extended into the spring semester.

Work Posture: This position is an on-campus/in office presence, part-time hours 10-20 hours a week.
