Job Purpose:

A Career Centre Coordinator supports students and graduates in their career development by providing guidance, resources, and job placement assistance. They organize career workshops, networking events, and job fairs while building relationships with employers to enhance employment opportunities. The role involves career counseling, CV writing support, interview preparation, and tracking graduate employment outcomes to improve career services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Preparation of Students for Career Readiness

Advises students on Career Centre Platform offerings: interactive career resources and tools, e-learning content and self-awareness assessmentsGuides and advises on CV design, interview preparation and general career supportOffers one-on-one career consultations, assisting students in gaining self-awareness and work readiness skills in conjunction with the Career Centre PlatformDesigns and presents a range of interactive workshops in relation to work readinessHosts work readiness workshops and showcases by inviting industry leaders to address studentsSupports and collaborates with Heads of Schools and departments regarding industry-specific events and workshops (ex. Law Careers Fair) 

Career Centre Marketing and Events

Creates ongoing Career Centre awareness, through awareness campaigns, in-class visits, workshops, e-mails, sms’s, WhatsApp groups and daily interaction with studentsEnsures sufficient students and alumni have accessed and engaged with the Career Centre Platform by marketing the Career Centre Platform and the VC Career Centre App to students and AlumniUploads job opportunities onto the Career Centre Platform job directoryUpskills, leads and empowers the Career Centre Ambassador team to market the Career Centre and its platform to the student bodyCo-ordinates and hosts career evenings / afternoon for final year students and alumniCo-ordinates and hosts part-time work expo for current studentsCo-ordinates and hosts career fair for students and alumniCo-ordinates and hosts Career Centre client appreciation breakfast for clientsCo-ordinates and hosts Graduate Employment Workshop (GEW) and VC Alumni Connect Evening for Alumni

Networking

Establishes and maintains relations with all clientsEnsures and enables clear and open communication between the clients and the Career CentreConducts regular meetings with clientsAlways ensures compliance to the corporate identityAttends and participates in networking forums resulting in the increased awareness of quality graduatesIdentifies businesses to partner with and actively seeks job opportunities that are in-line with the qualifications we offerMarkets the brand and demonstrates the value of recruiting through the Career Centre

Recruitment of Students and Alumni

Receives requests for students or graduates from clientsSends a job specification to clients to completeUploads job opportunities onto the Career Centre Platform job directory to advertise the job on the campus in relation to the relevant target marketReceives and screens student’s CVsObtains letters of recommendation from lecturers on suitable student candidatesConducts one on one interviews with the potential students and sends CV’s to clientsSubmits Curriculum Vitae’s (CV’s) to clientsTracks applications by following up with clients on placements made

Alumni

Extends similar career support to alumni allowing them to take advantage of professional networksOffers alumni the opportunity to reconnect with fellow students through networking functions, workshops, and alumni reunionsCreates a platform for Alumni to give back to the brand and students either by providing graduate job opportunities, talks or providing mentorship to current studentsRemains in contact with existing Alumni and track their success in industryAd hoc projects and duties as per National Career Centre Manager and Head: Student ExperienceMinimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) in related field (including Education, Human Resources, Psychology)Minimum of 3 years’ experience within Recruitment, Talent Acquisition or Training and Development.Driver’s license and own reliable vehicle.Key Competencies:
Ability to manage time effectively.Attention to detail.Customer service orientated.Ability to effectively cope with change.Deadline-orientated and can work well under pressure.Be able to work in a team environment. Effective communication skills
