Summary:
Reports to vascular lab supervisor, but daily tasks will be overseen by registered technical staff. Responsibilities include direct patient care including noninvasive testing, preparation for examinations, and data collection. Skills include obtaining a medical history and consent, pulse volume recordings, and exercise testing as directed and overseen by registered staff. A baseline level of vascular disease processes is expected. The incumbent is expected to perform other similar duties as assigned.

Job Responsibilities:

1) Provides age-appropriate care to patients.
Demonstrates the knowledge of developmental stages for the following age groups and applies developmental theories and concepts when implementing care for patients

2) Prepares patients for cardiac or vascular procedures
Explain cardiac stress test or vascular procedure to patient. Interview patient to obtain history. Present documentation to medical staff to determine if procedure is appropriate. Prepares patient for electrocardiogram or PVR Procedure.

3) Performs and assists in non-invasive vascular examinations.
Takes and records routine pulse volume recordings as indicated by periodic review of documentation. Obtains and documents medical history as ordered by physician/ midlevel provider order as indicated by monthly review of 10 records. Consistently reports any significant deviations in patient status as outlined in the procedure immediately. Records and reports data collected for various noninvasive procedures using reporting software as overseen by supervisor and registered staff.

4) Performs Noninvasive Stress Tests:
Once medically cleared for test, initiate procedure via department protocol. Provides ongoing monitoring and documenting necessary findings. Informs Nuclear Medicine Personnel when a patient having a cardiac perfusion stress test can be injected. Determines appropriate time to discontinue exercise stress test. Records pertinent information on electrocardiogram as listed in procedure manual to insure patient safety as observed by supervisor and monthly random review of charts. Communicates abnormal test findings to appropriate medical staff. Initiates emergency procedures according to established hospital policy as observed by supervisor and physicians.

5) Communicates supply needs to supervisor for vascular and stress testing. Determines the need for replacement supplies before depletion. Daily evaluation for adequate supplies and review of expiration dates. Stores supplies in appropriate sites as directed by supervisor

6) Maintains equipment in a clean and proper working order.
Cleans all equipment and patient care areas according to procedure daily as observed by random review. Carries out minor adjustments to equipment whenever necessary according to departmental procedure and logs failures in log book.

7) Communicates effectively with team and patients.
Interacts with patients in a respectful and informative manner. Clearly communicates information related to patient care to the team. Recognizes culturally based patient and family needs.

8) Is knowledgeable of and initiates emergency procedures.
Responds effectively in emergency situations as observed. Maintains Patient safety at all times. Communicated effectively with appropriate personnel.

9) Functions as a member of the team
Assists team members with clinical activities. Provides feedback related to the team process. Assists team members with non-clinical activities.

10) Professional Development:
Maintains CPR and Critical Care Arrhythmia Certification according to departmental policy. Follows proper procedure for incident reporting, substance precautions, infection control, nuclear isotope spill and disaster response as observed by supervisor. Notifies appropriate safety personnel in the case of a nuclear isotope spill in the stress lab area.

Required Work Experience:

1) Incumbent needs have successfully completed the hospital dysrhythmia course and exam and update annually

2)  CNA or equivalent experience and 3 years prior cardiovascular experience preferred
