BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Director of Planning and Real Estate Development, analyze, develop, and coordinate the University’s comprehensive campus plans and facility planning efforts to improve and maximize the efficient use of campus spaces. Serve to create a physical environment that advances the institution’s academic, research, and outreach missions. Coordinate efforts across multiple internal and external constituencies.
Duties and Responsibilities ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the effort for long-range strategic planning of University facilities. Facilitate internal and external committees, seek community input, engage campus constituents, and consult with external consultants regarding planning for University landscapes, facilities, urban development, utilities, transportation systems, information technologies, and open spaces.
Develop and implement institutional processes, guidelines, and standards to ensure campus planning efforts align with the University’s established missions, objectives, and strategic plans, as well as regulatory requirements.
Conduct strategic feasibility studies, analyze data, and make recommendations on a wide variety of campus planning issues that include program development, building sites, space/facilities development, landscape, lighting, parking, transportation systems, and other related infrastructure components. Working with the Director of Planning and Real Estate Development, provide the associated preliminary project budgets.
Provide client leadership in the management of external consulting resources. Participate in the development of and updates to the University’s Comprehensive Campus Plan.
Research trends and determine strategic campus physical growth needs and provide facilitation and support in the establishment of a responsive, comprehensive plan for campus facilities and real property development.
Promote long-range planning and strategic problem-solving to address campus facility, land-use, and development issues. Participate in the annual update of the University’s five-year capital budget plan to ensure consistency with and/or revision of the Comprehensive Campus Plan.
Work directly with University units to shepherd the process to fulfill their responsibility for engaging in strategic planning regularly and ensuring that their strategic plans have been approved by their Deans and the Provost or Vice President for conformance with the College’s and/or University’s Strategic Plan.
Serve as technical support for all other divisional/college space committees.
Analyze campus space assignments and utilization, coordinate the space request process, and develop recommendations to address needs within existing University space and budgetary restraints. Present recommendations to the University’s Space Allocation Committee.
Provide support to determine new building addresses and room numbering information.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform additional duties as requested.
LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers, printers; word processing, Web site management and spreadsheet software. Microsoft 365. Microsoft Project.
Required Qualifications REQUIRED:
1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited higher education institution with a concentration in planning or architecture.
2. Minimum seven years of professional experience in planning and/or design of facilities.
3. Demonstrated experience with interior space planning and architectural design procedures.
4. Demonstrated general knowledge of life safety, building codes, and building systems.
5. Demonstrated computer skills (including Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel).
6. Demonstrated analytical and organizational skills.
7. Demonstrated strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
8. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
9. Demonstrated presentation skills.
10. Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, decision-making environment.
11. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities concurrently.
12. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
Preferred Qualifications PREFERRED:
1. Master’s degree.
2. Minimum five years of professional experience in planning and/or design of facilities in a higher education setting.
3. Demonstrated general campus planning experience.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of AutoCAD space management software programs and graphics software.
