CAE Engineer - Driveline Dynamics

Summary

Polaris is seeking a CAE Engineer to provide insight and technical leadership in the area of Driveline Dynamics. In this role you will be developing world-class numerical models and performing simulations of powertrain and driveline subsystems using multi-body dynamics and finite-element software. This role is integrated with our design and physical test supporting development of new class leading vehicles at Polaris.

Responsibilities

Responsible for Multi-Body Dynamic Analysis: Develop virtual prototypes of powertrain and driveline systems in ADAMS/FEV Virtual Dynamics to generate force, motion, and durability predictions.Responsible for Model Correlation: Continuously improve and standardize numerical methods using physical test data.Responsible for Technical Leadership and Mentoring: Work with project teams to provide technical leadership in the areas of vibration, dynamics and durability.Responsible for Attribute Engineering: Understand how powertrain design and analysis influence the overall customer experience. Responsible for CAE Data Interpretation: Reporting and documentation including interpretation for peers and leadership.Responsible for developing Correlations: Examination of test data to drive correlation and drive higher model fidelity.Responsible for Methods Development: Implement CAE tools and develop best practices using automation, scripting, and model correlation.Responsible for Stretch Assignments: Work includes exposure to many vehicles and types of problems, including stretch opportunities outside of the core responsibilities.

Experience & Skills

Strong knowledge in the function, design, and kinematics of automotive powertrain and driveline systems.Proficiency in the use of Multi-Body Dynamics tools (ADAMS) incorporating finite-element flex bodies.5 years of work Experience in the use of advanced numerical analyses such as modal analysis, forced response, transfer path analysis, rigid/flexible-body dynamics, loads generation, structural analysis, and durability assessment.Experience with other CAE tools including FEA (Altair, Ansys) Signal Processing & Fatigue (nCode: Glyphworks, Design Life), Matlab, MathCAD, Creo is an asset.Experience using Design-Of-Experiments (DOE) and Parametric Optimization methods with CAE models is preferred.Scripting experience with Python or equivalent automation code is an asset.Powersports knowledge and experience is an asset.Strong problem-solving skills, adapting any and all tools for data-based decision making.Team player, ability to work with several design teams concurrently and across multiple sites.Strong written and oral communication skills.

Education

Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

The pay range for Minnesota is $75,000 to $99,000 per year. Individual salaries are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography.
