Weir Minerals Artarmon is an exciting facility, we have one of the largest foundries in Australia. We specialise in delivering innovative solutions that enhance operational efficiency and sustainability.

Weir is looking for a talented individual to join our team to create new 3D pattern and corebox CAD models. You will also be responsible for creating new CNC programs as well as managing the updates of existing programs to ensure compliance with released drawings from Engineering.


As apart of the role the selected candidate will be responsible for producing detailed pattern build up models and templates this is to assist in the efficient creation of the timber  preforms for machining on the 5 axis CNC router

Lastly a key aspect of this role is to  Mentor our patternmakers and apprentices in CAD modelling and CNC programming to ensure knowledge base is shared to shop floor level.


Key Responsibilities:

Generation of 3D CAD models of patterns and coreboxes, designed to be safe for use in foundry metal casting environment.Generation of 3D slice models for transfer to 3D printersGeneration of G code programs for transfer to CNC router machining procedural techniques and detailed machining methods.Designing and publishing timber preform templates.Ensuring all patterns etc. are of the correct dimensions and to the latest revision.Effective management of pattern model library within Teamcenter environmentCreation of 2D CAD drawings for foundry specific jigs and fixtures



Job Knowledge/ Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 Years CAD & CNC Programming modelling ExperienceRecognised Tertiary Qualifications (Patternmaker/Machinist/CNC Programmer)Sound knowledge and understanding of engineering principles and practicesUnderstanding of mechanical design principlesExperience with timber construction methodsAbility to troubleshoot and solve technical problems
