CA Limited License Tech Trainee I - West Hills, CA - Monday - Friday - 8:00AM-5:00PM

Under direct and constant supervision, incumbent(s) will use their training in medical technology to perform clinical lab testing and/or other scientific examinations. State law requires trainees to be under the direct and responsible supervision of a qualified person while performing clinical laboratory tests. The trainee is responsible to prepare for licensure as a clinical laboratory scientist. The Trainee is expected to master a set of instructional objectives or skills by the end of each module (rotation).


Demonstrate acquired knowledge and technical skill. Complete instructional or learning objectives as provided by the Program Manager or Trainer. The trainee will be able to understand analytical processes, interpret analytical results and appreciate the clinical significance of analyses performed in a modern clinical chemistry laboratory.  The Trainee must complete all text assignments, lectures, discussions, demonstrations, supervised practice, and practical examinations. Maintains professional interpersonal relations. Interacts effectively with others and actively participates as a committed team member. This includes interacting in a respectful, professional manner; remaining calm in difficult interactions; sharing information; listening to and involving others; objectively considering others' ideas and opinions, and interacting effectively with people from varied and diverse backgrounds; creating an environment of positive and professional demeanor for suppliers/customers.  Communicates clearly, politely, and respectfully with peers, technicians, technologists, supervisors, managers, and customers. This includes asking questions, giving and receiving information and feedback, explaining ideas or policies, actively listening to responses. Promptly and courteously answers the phone and assists clients and other departments.  Demonstrates a learning orientation. Trainees will be able to achieve passing scores on external State and/or National Examination upon completion of the California Training Program.  Under direct and constant supervision, performs clinical tests following Six Sigma quality standards. Exhibits skills and proficiency in applying technical principles and techniques of medical technology. The trainee will be able to work with laboratory instrumentation, quality control and quality assurance. Delivers testing that consistently meet or exceed standards with little or no relearning required.  Identifies problems related to learning activities. This includes attempting to resolve the problem, referring the problems/issues to the proper individual(s) when appropriate, and following appropriate Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Recognizes problems, initiates troubleshooting steps to evaluate testing failures, and notifies the Supervisor or Trainer, for additional assistance or support, if required.  Uses solutions, reagents, filtration, centrifugation, smearing, and/or sectioning techniques to prepare specimens/samples for laboratory delivery, examination, screens, and/or testing. This includes measuring liquid or solid substances to a specified amount using pre-calibrated scales/containers.  Under direct and constant supervision, interprets test results or output, and assures test results are accurate and/or acceptable for release.  Trainees are expected to achieve a passing score of 70% or better on the written examination at the end of each laboratory rotation. Demonstrate competency, and comprehension of the technical aspects for each training module as documented on the Competency Assessment Schedule. The student must receive a passing score to satisfactorily complete the rotation.  Helps to ensure the laboratory areas are neat, clean, and organized. Complies with all health and safety policies, procedures, and practices. Required to use personal protective equipment. Other duties as assigned.
