SUMMARY: The Buyer/Planner is responsible for updating the finite production schedule, coordinating with Production to meet requirements, ensuring raw material deliveries to support the schedule, and monitoring performance. Other responsibilities include maintaining established inventory goals and supporting other departments in meeting customer expectations.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. BS/BA in supply chain management or business degree preferred.
Experience: 2-3 years of experience in a similar setting
Knowledge/Skills and/or Abilities:
• Organizational and planning skills.
• Ability to shift priorities frequently and effectively perform under pressure.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work well with all levels of management and staff.
• Understanding of how the Materials Requirement Planning system functions
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Scheduling:
• Adjust the daily production schedule based on operational efficiency, delivery expectations, and material availability
• Participate in production meetings to discuss the current production plan and review recent production performance
• Communicate and involve stakeholders (Customer Service, Production, Quality, etc.) to resolve potential schedule or customer requirement interruptions
Purchasing:
• Place POs with suppliers for production material as required by forecast and the production schedule
• Monitor status of open POs to ensure on-time delivery of all materials; adjust delivery dates as needed to meet the schedule; communicate and mitigate potential problems
• Investigate and resolve issues regarding supplier PO to invoice discrepancies
• Notify suppliers of quality problems and process returns as needed
• Maintain optimal inventory levels of finished goods and raw materials by using established parameters
• Maintain ERP data (MOQ, lead time, safety stock)
Interdepartmental support:
• Schedule sample workorders as needed
• Assist in documentation regarding the introduction or obsolescence of new materials, finished goods, and suppliers
• Update and publish monthly metrics (OTD, supplier scorecards, etc.)
Follows all SSP Food Safety Management System policies and procedures. In addition, employees are responsible for reporting problems with the Food Safety Management System to a supervisor, manager or the Quality Systems Representative.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools and controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment is climate-controlled year around. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Noise level is loud on the manufacturing floor.
The following personal protective equipment (PPE) is required to be worn at all times when performing in this role while on the manufacturing floor: safety glasses and hearing protection. Food Safety protective equipment is required at all times while on the manufacturing floor: including hair nets, gloves and, if applicable, beard nets.
