Business System Analyst

The Office of the University Registrar (UREG) at the University of Virginia seeks an experienced individual to join its collaborative team as a Curriculum and Program Management Specialist. Reporting to the Academic Requirements Analyst, the Curriculum and Program Management Specialist will work collaboratively with departments within UREG, schools, and other central offices to provide primary functional oversight for academic requirements, curriculum, and course catalog within the University Registrar’s Office.

They will support the development and maintenance of all courses and academic requirements, including course exceptions, in both the course catalog and the University Records. They will also support the maintenance of University and policies related to academic requirements in the University Records. They will review best practices and make recommendations for the structured use of Modern Campus Curriculum (formerly Curriculog) and Modern Campus Catalog (formerly Acalog), UREG’s tools for courses and catalog updates, respectively.

Responsibilities:

Support UREG’s commitment to Inclusive Excellence by developing a culture that is supportive, inclusive, collaborative, high-performing, and healthy. Apply an equity-minded approach to every aspect of UREG’s work. Manage the maintenance and publication of the University's Course Catalog, as UREG’s subject matter expert of tools within Modern Campus.Develop administrative and functional proficiency in Curriculum, the content management system used to publish and maintain the Course Catalog.Develop proficiency with the capabilities and features of all applicable software and of the interrelationship between various modules and products related to course management functionality in SIS. Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of courses and academic requirements, including related policies, workflows, and procedures.Analyze and report on curriculum data to support academic planning and decision-making.Provide training and ongoing guidance to school and departmental teams with registrar responsibilities related to curriculum management; provide subject-matter expertise and work collaboratively with others to develop on-line curriculum management training for the university community.Coordinate with colleagues in UREG, schools, and departments to support the maintenance and publication of academic course requirements.Develop functional expertise in Catalog, the content management system used to update and maintain the University Records.Support the application of exceptions to academic requirements, documenting reasons, dates, and other data to capture impacts to the student record.Collaborate with others in UREG to ensure information in the Records is accurate, complete, and has been reviewed and approved appropriately before publication.Support the design solutions that leverage course catalog and academic requirements functionality to improve services in UREG, schools, departments, and administrative units. Support UREG team in providing high quality services to the university community and collaborate with colleagues across the institution to recommend process improvements that benefit colleagues, students and their families, and other stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and have at least one (1) years of experience in reviewing and maintaining academic requirement processes and systems.More extensive functional experience of four (4) or more additional years in higher education or academic requirements and technical support can serve in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and support others in using new technologies.

In addition, successful candidates should also possess the following qualities and skills:

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people from all levels and backgrounds at the University, including students, families, and faculty members—successful candidates must excel in this area and will be able to demonstrate their ability to do this particularly well in challenging contexts.Excellent analytical skills—ability to independently define problems accurately and concisely, using both quantitative and qualitative methods, develop and execute one or more solutions, and evaluate its effectiveness.Ability to devise or modify complex information systems to include analysis of business and user needs, documenting requirements, and revising existing system logic difficulties as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in higher education administration, particularly in academic requirements or exceptions to those requirements in collaboration with faculty and staff .Knowledge of the policies and procedures of curriculum developmentExperience with PeopleSoft, or other student information systems, and/or the ability to independently analyze and redesign business processes through change management methodologies.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling to Charlottesville to attend meetings and programs. This is a three-year term position that requires consistent in-person activities. There will be options for hybrid work.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $65,000 - $75,000, commensurate with education and experience.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering or related discipline
Experience: At least one year of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Licensure: None
