Purpose Statement Build value for the product line by solving client and business challenges using data.  Utilise data and analytical skills and experience to build insights which enable senior decision makers to make better, informed decisions faster. Ownership and responsibility for allocated focus/product or client area (collaboration, planning, discretion, escalation, building an understanding of the specific business domain, and identifying opportunities) Deliver on business requirements (using relevant tools/methodologies/platforms/standards, understanding and documenting the business need appropriately, mining databases and relevant reports to answer business questions, joining and extracting relevant data from multiple sources/processes, data manipulation, clarity on projected timelines, prioritisation, estimating positive impact and potential risk, and providing end-to-end data driven analysis). Deliver data driven insights (contributing to and sharing visualisations/report prototypes/analyses, understanding stakeholders, recommendations, and communicating outcomes/feedback appropriately) Knowledge share, standards, and data quality (self-development, improvements, adherence to principles and best practices, reviews, assisting with establishment of processes to ensure effective query resolution, and participating in the relevant Community of Practice) The job holder will have no direct reports.

 

Key Role Expectations

Autonomy and decision making:

Works under close supervision - makes choices in the execution of day-to-day tasks. Uses some discretion in attending to enquiries, but expected to seek guidance in unexpected situations. Plans own work within short time horizons.

Interacts with and may possibly influence colleagues in own team. May have contact with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and partners. Understands stakeholder/client needs and collaborates with team to analyse and represent such needs in work output.

Job Scope and Complexity:

Performs a range of work, sometimes moderately complex and non-routine, in a variety of environments. Applies a methodical approach to routine and moderately complex issue definition and resolution within scope of own tasks.

Technical/Specialist Leadership and Oversight:

Understands and effectively applies appropriate methods, tools, applications, and processes. Takes initiative to develop own knowledge and skills by identifying and negotiating appropriate development opportunities. Education (Minimum) A relevant tertiary qualification in Business Analysis Grade 12 National Certificate / Vocational Education (Ideal or Preferred) A relevant tertiary qualification in Business Administration or Mathematics Knowledge and Experience

Knowledge (Minimum):

Design thinking The Data Product Life Cycle (DPLC) Data Visualisations using tools such as Power BI  Fundamental Data Privacy and Security regulations  Fundamental Data Quality and Incident Management  

 

Experience (Minimum):

At least 1 year's proven experience as Business Intelligence Analyst or equivalent (e.g., Data Analyst, etc.); including experience in Data Analytics, BI methods and tools, Data Warehousing and the Data Product Life Cycle Experience in identifying, quantifying, and subsequently delivering value on how to solve business challenges using data  Exposure to using data and Visualisation tools (such as Power BI, SQL, and Excel) Experience in building Data Visualisations using tools (such as Power BI)

 

Knowledge and Experience (Ideal):

Knowledge of and experience operating on the AWS (or similar) data stack Knowledge of Agile Project Management methodology Ability to design databases and data assets External data, and receiving, integrating and supplying data to external suppliers/vendors Skills Communications Skills Facilitation Skills Numerical Reasoning skills Presentation Skills Problem solving skills Commercial Thinking Skills Analytical Skills Planning, organising and coordination skills Additional Information (Required) Clear criminal and credit record
