Job Summary
The Healthcare Business Development Manager is responsible for new market development and business capture of Avient products at targeted healthcare strategic accounts/customers, delivering profitable growth for the business. This position is responsible for prospecting, vetting and qualifying new business opportunities with targeted industries and customers, maximizing the value proposition and coordinating the follow- through needed to close new business as well as furthering profitability growth with existing customers. Accountability will center on margin and relationship building but will include prospecting, forecasting, achievement of sales objectives and directing activities across functional groups in support of account goals.
Essential Functions
• Prospecting and aggressively pursuing new business within the healthcare marketspace– a true hunter.
• Participate in Specialty Engineered Materials (SEM) strategy development, help position the business and develop the offer. Assist in defining the target markets, key processors and commercial product strategy.
• Establish a linkage between the customer’s business strategy and Avient’s capabilities by developing relationships, identifying opportunities and capturing the specifications for Avient’s products at strategic accounts that align with Avient’s healthcare sales team.
• Understand key players, applications, requirements, trends, and needs as well as Avient’s potential and share within the targeted industries. Become an industry and product expert to leverage successes across target industries.
• Coordinate closely with technical sales and customer operations to link the processor to global partners.
• Coordinate closely with the SEM healthcare vertical commercial team as well as supporting technical organizations as necessary to accelerate and drive profitable growth through specifications/solutions selling to targeted accounts.
• Implement Avient’s product, pricing and market strategies as well as business practices. Negotiate customer contracts and value packages to insure an acceptable return on Avient resources invested.
• Monitor the competition to better understand issues and threats and develop plans to eliminate barriers.
• Establish individual performance standards, goals and objectives - - measure and provide feedback.
• Develop, execute and manage sales plans and budgets. Manage expenses and report in a timely fashion.
• Manage strategic relationships, cultivate new alliances, and monitor competitive activity.
• Communicate regularly and broadly. Ensure smooth transitions to account sales, customer service, global partners and manufacturing.
• Adhere to all Avient safety, travel, ethics, and Human Resource policies.

Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in engineering or another technical area of study.
• Minimum of 3 years of healthcare plastics industry experience, preferably in the compounding sector or with a major ETP resin manufacturer.
Additional Qualifications
• Broad knowledge of Engineered Compounds including olefins, nylons, specialty engineered thermoplastics (ETPs).
• Strong skills working collaboratively in a matrix organizational structure with the ability to effectively influence virtual teams globally.
• Proven track record of selling value and penetrating high/wide/deep with the decision makers and influencers in customer organizations that generate profitable growth.
• Strong performance in commercial excellence tools: strategic account plan development, optimizing the sales funnel, articulating value propositions and creating metrics to demonstrate the value.
• Must be an excellent communicator.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Experience with SAP is a plus.
