Job Summary
The Business Administrator will manage the assigned business functions of the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies including but not limited to providing support to the center faculty, staff, and students. The Business Administrator, Sr will provide comprehensive support and management with grant, award, and all applicable fund types within constellation and department, providing administrative, accounting, complete proposal assistance, budgeting, active reporting, final reporting, and making strategic recommendations to PI regarding award management. The Business Administrator, Sr provides timely processing, proactive management and proper open communication to keep PIs aware of fund status to ensure compliance at all levels at all times. Additionally, the Administrator will provide back-up support to the Business Manager and be able to assume, on an interim basis, the tasks assigned to the Business Manager when necessary, including center-wide financial management, personnel management, and providing ad-hoc reports to center and institute leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications for Business Administrator
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or similar field Three (3) years of relevant experience to include one (1) year of work experience in the administration, monitoring and management of research and/or other closely related types of restricted funds Familiarity with federal and state government regulations as they pertain to research administration A relevant combination of education and directly related experience in higher education may be substituted for degreeMinimum Qualifications for a Sr. Business Administrator
Bachelor's Degree in related field Five (5) or more years of relevant experience to include three (3) years of work experience in the administration, monitoring and management of research and/or other closely related types of restricted funds Familiarity with federal and state government regulations as they pertain to research administrationRelevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience managing the administrative and business functions for a complex university research center or department; including budget preparation, proposal preparation, financial management, and human resources activitiesMinimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to analyze and interpret reports, documents and statistical data
• Ability to perform budget reporting and forecasting, as well as account reconciliation
• Knowledge of financial software, including spreadsheet, database, and data warehouse applications
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite software applications
• Ability to learn and/or use SCT Banner finance, position control and labor modules or other appropriate applications
• Knowledge of fund based budgeting.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines
• Ability to work as individually or as part of a team
• Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills

Starting Salary/Rate
Expected hiring range:
Business Administrator $60,000 - $65,000 Sr. Business Administrator $75,000 - $85,000Pay transparency disclosure: The selected candidate’s salary will be determined based on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate’s qualifications, experience, education and other job-related credentials. This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer’s good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
