Thermo King is hiring a Bus HVAC and Aftermarket Product Engineering Leader (Senior Engineering Manager) to join our team to lead a team of Engineering Professionals! This leader is responsible for new product development, quality and reliability improvements, sustaining engineering, customer order delivery, and product applications engineering.

 

As the Engineering Leader, you will ensure the overall quality, productivity, delivery, product safety, schedules, durability, unit performance, and efficiency of our product platforms. You will also leverage the Business Operating System (BOS) and global support teams to achieve these goals. Additionally, you will focus on growing and engaging team members within the department.

Where is the work: 

Hybrid:  This position has been designated as a Hybrid work schedule with work performed onsite 3 days each week in Minneapolis, MN. 

  

What you will do:    

Provide engineering leadership for the Americas Bus HVAC and aftermarket product growth teams, while working closely with Product Management and Manufacturing to deliver on product market share, margin, and growth goals. Develop and execute short- and long-term engineering strategies, aligning technology for product platforms with the company's overall business objectives. Enhance the ability to leverage partnerships to execute product engineering strategies. Collaborate with internal Engineering Technology Centers (ETC), Centers of Excellence (COE), and corporate Network of Excellence (NOE) groups. Develop external partnerships with suppliers. Lead and manage a team of engineers to successfully complete the new product development, quality/reliability improvement, productivity, sustaining, customer order delivery, and product applications engineering projects using Trane Technologies Product Development Process (PDP). Ensure projects meet Quality/Delivery/Cost (QDC) targets. Ensure sustaining engineering work is efficiently completed to support manufacturing factories, supplier deviation and design change requests, and quality & reliability improvement projects. Prioritize field issues, supply chain, etc. to meet customer needs and expectations. This role is customer facing and collaborates with technical service and dealers.  Lead the aftermarket engineering team to manage service parts and accessory product categories throughout their entire product lifecycle. Provide engineering support to the aftermarket team for new product development and identified growth opportunities. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence within the engineering team. Keep the team motivated, engaged, and highly productive. Conduct regular team and staff meetings, as well as project technical review meetings. Oversee the development of the team. Collaborate with product management, design, manufacturing, the project management office, and the service team to define platform requirements, prioritize features, and ensure timely delivery of projects. Oversee and manage engineering platform budget and cost center. Ensure product meets all regulatory and certification requirements. 

 

What you will bring:  

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and at least 10 years of engineering, product development, or relevant experience is required. Master’s degree in engineering or business is a plus. Minimum of 5 years of people management experience is required.

 

Key Competencies:                

Experience in product design, development, and application engineering. HVAC or refrigeration product development experience is a plus. Strong capability in engineering fundamentals, including refrigeration/Air conditioning, structures, heat transfer, airflow, electrical, electronics, embedded firmware, and software Demonstrated ability to efficiently manage and deliver customer order projects within short cycle times, ensuring timely and high-quality outcomes. Expertise in DFMEA- Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, DFM- Design for manufacturing, DFS- Design for Service, DFSS- Design for Supplier Success, and reliability tools. Demonstrated leadership ability with commitment to excellence and high ethical standards Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate teams toward identified goals. Strong communication skills, both verbally and written. Strong project management and team organization skills, with the ability to use MS Project.

 

Compensation:    

Annual Base Pay Range: $140,000 – 190,000  

Total compensation for this role will include a commission/incentive plan. Disclaimer: This base pay range is based on US national averages. Actual base pay could be a result of seniority, merit, geographic location where the work is performed.
