**Job Title: Blaster**
**Job Description**
Blasters will be working at Huntington Ingalls Industries. The primary role involves blasting surfaces to the specified standard without leaving any faulty areas. Additional responsibilities include setting up for the job, training other workers as needed, and completing tasks with little to no supervision. Blasters must be knowledgeable of OSHA requirements related to the shipbuilding industry and comply with company, federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations. The role also involves operating, cleaning, and maintaining all equipment accurately, following directions, and effectively communicating both in writing and orally. Blasters will lead small work groups and interpret and work from various documents, including owner-supplied drawings and job specifications.
**Responsibilities**
+ Blast surfaces to the specified standard without leaving faulty areas.
+ Assist in setting up for the job and training other workers.
+ Complete work with minimal supervision.
+ Adhere to OSHA requirements and safety regulations.
+ Operate, clean, and maintain equipment.
+ Follow directions and communicate effectively.
+ Lead small work groups as assigned.
+ Interpret and work from various documents, including drawings and specifications.
+ Perform repairs to hoses, lines, and isolated equipment.
+ Work in dark spaces with other blasters in close proximity.
**Essential Skills**
+ Formal or informal on-the-job training and 2 years of experience in the marine industry.
+ Proficiency in blasting interior or exterior surfaces.
+ Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance manuals, safety rules, and procedure manuals.
+ Cooperative and productive work behavior with other employees and shipyard personnel.
+ Ability to take direction and execute the specified work scope.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
+ C-7 Certification is a huge plus.
+ Experience working in confined spaces.

**Work Environment**
Work will be performed at Huntington Ingalls Industries, helping to build warships such as surface combatants, submarines, and aircraft carriers for the U.S. Navy. The typical work environment is dusty, noisy, and confined. Personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, hard hats, goggles, and respirators are required.
**Job Type & Location**
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newport News, Virginia.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $28.00/hr.
