**Employment Type:** Full time **Shift:** Day Shift **Description:** **Birth Registrar - St. Peter's Hospital - FT Days** **Position Summary** : Reviews medical records of mothers and babies and abstracts data elements required to file a certificate of live birth. Abstracts data elements from medical records required for Perinatal Database. Interacts with new mothers to verify information provided on worksheet and to assist in accurate completion of paternity acknowledgements. Generates reports from EBC & PDS to support Women & Children's program and QI. Represents hospital at regional PDS meetings. Shift Differentials, just to name a few. **Education Requirements** : + Associate's degree + Medical Terminology **Experience Requirements** : + 1 - 3 years' experience in a medical record department, patient care area or physician office is required to have an overall understanding of the medical record and its components. Data Collection & Integrity + Maintains the integrity of EBC and PDS systems + Corrections of any errors on birth certificates + Reporting of statistical data to Manager for QI Knowledge of Laws, Rules and Regulations + Accurately discusses paternity acknowledgements with single mothers, explains requirements for legal aspects of birth certificate. + Birth certificate submission within 5 days of birth (Public Health Law # 4130) + Understands and accurately applies laws around paternity Acknowledgement preparation. + Understands and accurately applies A &A rules and guidelines according to JCAHO Record Maintenance + Compiles information for a complete and accurate birth certificate for every newborn. + Assembles and Analyzes inpatient and outpatient records accurately and timely manner. Communication + Accurately reviews and verifies the information submitted by parents and makes follow-up phone calls to verify accuracy as needed. + Represents hospital at regional PDS meetings and articulates the nuances of our data collection. + Accurately generates monthly statistical reports for Quality Improvement Dept and Womens & Children's for QI review. Pay Range: $18.50 - $26.85 Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates.
