Position Summary/Description:

If you’re interested in improving healthcare and making positive change through analyses for cutting edge research, this could be the position for you. Investigators need your skills as a biostatistician in health data analytics to help untangle the data and tackle the hard issues facing health and healthcare today. The Data and Analytics Research Team ( DART ) at the Sheps Center for Health Services Research is seeking a Biostatistician, to work in collaboration with team members, research professionals, clinicians, and key partners on a variety of projects focused on improving the lives of individuals and communities across NC and beyond.
As a Biostatistician, you will design and implement analyses for research studies focused on health services research topics such as the incidence and prevalence of disease, patterns of utilization and treatment, and cost of care in North Carolina to improve the delivery and quality of care for its residents. Using your skills you will address critical health research questions, utilizing datasets such as insurance claims data, electronic health records and surveys. This work may include project scoping and estimating, grant writing, conducting statistical analyses, creating analytic datasets, developing supporting documentation, and preparing dissemination materials. You will collaborate as an intellectual partner with the research team; your role will likely include analysis plan creation, analyses, authorship.
Proficiency in tools like SAS , R, Python, and SQL is essential, as is the ability to independently manage and prioritize a full spectrum of data tasks from initial scoping to the final preparation of findings for dissemination.
Education and Experience:
- PhD in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Public Health, Population Health Sciences, Statistics, Health Policy Management, or related field and at least 2 years of experience OR Master’s with at least 5 years of experience
- Previous experience in observational and/or pragmatic clinical trials focused on the implementation of healthcare interventions impacting quality and equity of care
- Previous grant writing experience
- Previous experience presenting findings to internal or external stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with a team
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organization skills
Essential Skills:
- Must have demonstrated experience with developing analytic plans and supporting projects related to Health Services Research
- Must have demonstrated experience in the selection and application of appropriate statistical methods such as hierarchical regression, propensity score and other matching, survey design, survival analysis, time series, instrumental variables, structural equation modeling ( SEM ), sample size calculations, and/or creation of randomization schedules
- Must have demonstrated proficiency utilizing at least 2 of the following: SAS , R, Python, SQL , and/or Stata
- Must have experience with healthcare research data such as public and private insurance claims, electronic health record dataset, or any other public or proprietary healthcare data.
