Description:
The Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine is seeking an innovative and flexible educator with commitment to medical student education position as Biomedical Science Faculty. The position is designed for a master medical sciences educator (academic rank to be determined based on eligibility) with a passion for teaching and learning. This faculty position's primary function focuses on facilitating learning foundational medical sciences. There is no expectation of medical science research.
KP School of Medicine aims to deliver an innovative, integrated curriculum, utilizing technology-based instruction and evaluation, and small group learning. Candidates will be responsible for coordinating, developing, and teaching material throughout the four years of the curriculum. Biomedical Science content areas will include anatomy, genetics, physiology, biochemistry, histology, microbiology, immunology, pharmacology and neurosciences, as well as other biomedical sciences and clinical sciences. Selected individuals will also have administrative responsibilities including coordination with other content areas, generation of appropriate evaluation tools, student evaluation and interdisciplinary collaborations. The successful candidate must possess a strong passion for curriculum development and integration with the clinical sciences, creativity, experience working with technology, and a track record of collaboration.

Essential Responsibilities:

Candidates will be responsible for coordinating, developing, and teaching material throughout the four years of the curriculum. Content areas may include some of the following: anatomy, genetics, physiology, biochemistry, histology microbiology, immunology, pharmacology and neurosciences, as well as other biomedical sciences.

Selected individuals will also have administrative responsibilities and be responsible for coordinating with other content area experts, generation of appropriate evaluation tools, and interdisciplinary collaborations.


This position has a target base salary of $88,400 to $215,930, based on rank and qualifications and is eligible for incentive compensation, comprehensive health, wellness, time off, savings, and retirement benefits, as well as relocation support, as applicable.


Basic Qualifications:Experience N/AEducation PhD or MD degree or a comparable degree. License, Certification, Registration N/A
Additional Requirements: Experience evaluating learning outcomes and maintaining an ongoing track record of professional and course continuous quality improvement. Demonstrated ability to apply specific subject matter knowledge to the needs of a medical student as evidenced through student, peer or annual evaluations. Experienced in applying the principles of learning and instructional design, adult learning theory, educational research, development of competency-based education, and assessment of student learning (skills, knowledge and attitudes) through course, module or new content development. Excellent writing and teaching skills with a commitment to student success. Demonstrated evidence of strong interpersonal and communications skills, effective critical thinking, and the ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks. Demonstrated evidence of a commitment to promoting a culture that respects and advances diversity and inclusion of all people, inquiry, and scholarship. Demonstrated creativity and strategic thinking with the ability to take initiative and the willingness to learn. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge and experience with various teaching methodologies such as problem based learning, team based learning, case based learning, technology assisted learning and flipped classroom. Experience with accreditation of medical education programs. Experience with technology-based instruction and evaluation. Ability to work collaboratively with project staff, faculty, and administration. Evidence of an established record of effective teaching, participation in faculty development, and a commitment to work productively in an inter-professional team. Evidence of prior productive scholarly and creative activity is also desired. Record of medical education related scholarly activity. PhD or MD degree in a foundational/biomedical science.
