Responsibilities As a BIOLOGIST- Safety/Facilities/Fleet Manager within the PACIFIC ISLAND ECOSYSTEM RESEARCH CENTER, some of your specific duties will include: Apply biological knowledge to support station and field operations across PIERC projects; coordinate with staff to assist with planning, organizing, and implementing complex scientific investigations, including the use of facilities and vehicles. Prepare and provide scientific review of scientific reports, journal articles, presentations, and data releases. Track and manage project data and field and station operations information using a variety of general software (e.g. Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, SharePoint, etc.) including compiling data, preparing summary tables and figures, and preparing reports for funding agencies and cooperators. Conduct limited lab and fieldwork and assisting principal investigators to ensure data and safety procedures are followed and updated as needed. Support all required field safety training and certification for PIERC staff. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The field work requires some physical exertion such as walking over wet, rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Laboratory work requires moderate physical ability and agility and dexterity to manipulate samples and operate equipment. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in an office, laboratory, and/or in the field. The office is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Temperature and weather extremes may be encountered in the performance of the outdoor work. Field and laboratory duties may require the use of special protective gear. The work was planned and carried out independently in accordance with proven techniques, methods, and practices.
