The primary purpose of this position is to Under the direct guidance of a higher grade Environmental Professional, to serve in a developmental capacity performing management, execution, and operations for an assigned program element(s). Responsibilities GS 11 Provides extensive environmental expertise to manage assigned environmental projects or programs through application of professional knowledge and skill in practices, processes and techniques. Responsible for executing assigned projects or program element(s), in-house and by contract, to comply with all applicable Federal, state, and local environmental laws and policies. Provides advisory services on specific problems, projects, programs, and functions in assigned program area. Serves as the installation's most knowledgeable technical consultant on environmental compliance laws and regulations. Complies with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work that enhances the safety of the work environment. GS 12 Monitors and manages assigned environmental projects through application of professional knowledge and skill in practices, processes and techniques. Responsible for executing assigned projects, in-house and by contract, to comply with all applicable Federal, State, and local environmental laws and policies. Coordinates curricula and training for assigned program areas at the installation. Provides advisory services on questions, issues, and projects in assigned program areas. Complies with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures, and performs work that enhances the safety of the work environment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications PLEASE NOTE: This is not a developmental opportunity, this position may be filled at the GS-11 or GS12, grade level depending on applicant qualifications and organizational requirements. The individual selected for this position may be considered for promotion to a higher grade without further competition upon meeting all legal and regulatory/program requirements. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. http://www2.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/index.html To qualify for a GS-11: 1 year equivalent to at least GS-9 of specialized experience. 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. To qualify for a GS-12: 1 year equivalent to at least next lower grade level of GS-11. Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's degree or completion of 4 academic years of pre-professional study. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying. The Internship offers valuable work experience directly related to your academic field of study.
