SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE:
The Bioinformatics Director has a key role in supporting the Exelixis early and late-stage portfolios. The responsibilities of this position include conducting computational analyses of preclinical, clinical, and translational datasets to identify potential predictive, prognostic and pharmacodynamic biomarkers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Obtain and analyze diverse public and internal datasets (e.g., microarray, RNA-Seq, WES, proteomic) to derive actionable insights.
Design and implement bioinformatics algorithms, including unsupervised and supervised machine learning, dynamic programming, and graph algorithms.
Conduct computational and statistical analyses to correlate patient subgroups with target expression and identify key pathways regulated by proprietary compounds.
Develop and apply novel computational approaches and analytical tools to address critical questions related to pipeline programs.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including discovery, translational medicine, and publishing to develop and execute biomarker studies.
Support biomarker data analysis and management, and serve as the data science lead for clinical studies.
Present results at internal and external meetings and collaborate to publish findings in high-quality journals.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Education/Experience:
PhD in the biology/bioinformatics or related discipline and a minimum of eight years of related experience; or,
Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience successfully managing bioinformatics projects in a biotech or academic environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position requires 90% indoor work including significant time spent at a computer, analyzing data, writing reports, and collaborating with team members through on site and virtual meetings.
Approximately 10% travel is expected, primarily to attend and/or present at scientific meetings, workshops, and conferences.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The base pay range for this position is $181,500 - $257,500 annually. The base pay range may take into account the candidate’s geographic region, which will adjust the pay depending on the specific work location. The base pay offered will take into account the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity, among other factors.In addition to the base salary, as part of our Total Rewards program, Exelixis offers comprehensive employee benefits package, including a 401k plan with generous company contributions, group medical, dental and vision coverage, life and disability insurance, and flexible spending accounts.
