SUMMARY: The Unaccompanied Children Program provides long term and transitional residential care and other supportive services to Unaccompanied Children (UC) who are under legal custody of the Federal Government. Working in collaboration with the Federal Office of Refugee Resettlement, ORR, our program provides a safe and nurturing environment for youth in a Basic Shelter program, and the Therapeutic Group home programs located at our licensed residential facility in Yonkers, NY as well as Transitional Foster Care Program and the Long Term Foster Care Program located at our licensed residential facility in Yonkers, NY as well as a Transitional Foster Care program and the Long Term Foster Care Program located in foster homes in the Bronx, Queens and Westchester. In all programs, we provide therapeutic and educational services and other supports that youth need to achieve success through an array of strength-based and targeted interventions as well as link them with family members and/or other sponsors in the United States so they are able to move forward with their lives and thrive. The Teacher’s Aide will provide educational services to the children supported by the POH program, and will work in collaboration with the Head Teacher and the team in the service provision.
Responsibilities
Supervisory responsibilities
Supervises Teachers and Teacher’s Assistants in everyday operations of the Educational program. Complete individual supervision on a weekly basis, providing clear and concrete feedback to supervisees based on performance and organization’s competencesEnsure that supervisees meet program protocols and expectationsComplete performance appraisals on a yearly basis, based on the fair and clear feedback and support provided to supervisees throughout the yearComplete Disciplinary actions and/or Performance Improvement Plans as need, to maintain accountability and high quality standards in service provisionMonitor that the Educational program runs accordingly to the program protocols and expectationsEnsure that the Teachers and TA meet the Program and ORR mandates at all timesEnsure that classroom instructions is facilitated in accordance to the educational curriculum Ensure that the agency model PROMISE is adhered to the daily operations of the Educational Program
Training and Staff Development
The Educational Coordinator will ensure that the Educational team is offered ongoing trainings relevant to their professional developmentProvide support and technical assistance to all supervisee so that can maintain high quality of service provisionAttend to organization-wide and outside trainings as neededEssential Duties and Responsibilities for the daily operation of the Educational Program
Will assist in development of the Educational curriculum and lesson plans for youth in both the Transitional Foster Care and the Basic Shelter Programs. Will ensure that the lesson plans are developed accordingly to the developmental needs of the youth in the program, and in coherence with NYC educational standards. Will ensure that the classroom environment is safe and conducive to learning. Will create and oversee all educational activities in the community as well as hands-on projects that will enhance the lesson plans provided to all children in the program. Participate in program and agency-wide committees and work-groups Provide additional support within the cottage as needed. Assist with other duties depending on the situational needs of the Program.Participates in the interviewing, training and hiring of new employees. QualificationsEDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Master’s/License in Education or a related field preferredBachelor’s degree in Educational or a related fieldMinimum 2 Years of experience providing educational or vocational services for special needs youthMinimum 2 Years of Supervisory Experience Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) a must
