Title Substitute Teacher FY2425_24 Reports to: Building Principal Status: As needed, schedules vary. NOTE: Applicants will need to identify their availability on their application. Depending on Certification: Non-certified Sub - $130 full day, $75 half day Certified Sub - $160/full day, $85/half day Requirement: Substitute Teachers will be required to sign up with the automated substitute placement program utilized by the District. Substitutes who do not have a current Montana Educator License will be required to complete the State of Montana, Office of Public Instruction (OPI) Substitute/Guest Teachers free online, self-paced, course prior to being placed in the classroom. Proof of completion is required to be submitted to Human Resources. Essential Job Duties Instructs classes in the absence of the regular teacher. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities for a teacher during the time the teacher is absent. Prepares lesson plans if instructed to do so by the building principal. Maintains order in the classroom. Maintains records, including but not limited to recording student grades, student assignments, projects, and other clerical work as instructed by the absent teacher. Supervises students and aides. Only minimum duties are listed. Other functions may be required as given or assigned. Knowledge Skills Abilities Skill in classroom instruction. Skill in operating equipment used in a classroom setting, including a computer; planning and managing projects. Skill in preparing and maintaining accurate records; and using pertinent software applications. Knowledge to analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Knowledge of safety practices and procedures. Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy. Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students Ability to be flexible to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Ability to problem solve to analyze issues and create action plans. Ability to manage time, adapt to changing work priorities. Ability to communicate with diverse groups; maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines and schedules. Ability to set priorities, work as part of a team and work with and manage frequent interruptions. Ability to use a computer network system and software applications as required. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues and staff. Ability to follow both oral and written directions and instructions. Ability to handle stressful situations. Ability to maintain confidentiality of student matters. Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities. Ability to adjust daily work plans and work hours to be highly responsive to school needs Required Qualifications Any combination of training, education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. A successful work experience/history performing duties and responsibilities in an effective manner. Preferred Qualifications Valid Montana Educator License. Successful experience teaching and working with children/students. Equipment Computer, calculator, copier, fax machine, telephone/voice mail. Physical and Mental Demands and Work Hazards Performs routine classroom related work. Regularly works inside. Frequently required to work at fast pace. Possess a comfort with ambiguity. Exposed to minimal temperature variations. Generally hazard free environment. Carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Significant fine finger dexterity. Requires considerable concentration and creativity. The environment can be stressful due to the nature of the work. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Frequently required to sit, occasionally walk and stand and reach with hands or arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Required to be able to hear conversations in loud and quiet environments. May be required to lift or carry up to 10-30 pounds routinely with or without an accommodation. The employee frequently works within time constraints and must maintain attentiveness intensity. Frequently involved in interactions which require oral and written communications. Exercises flexibility and the ability to shift from one task to another. Occasional travel/mobility between schools, or between schools and the Administration office, may be required. Effective hearing and speech abilities. Subject to stress caused by a changing environment, diversity in the organization, tight deadlines and work load, but must be able to maintain work/life balance amidst intense work demands. Reports to work fit for duty with characteristics inherent to the position.
