Behavior Specialist

Nexus-Indian Oaks is part of Nexus Family Healing, a national nonprofit network of mental health agencies providing innovative, customized help for children and families struggling with emotional, behavioral, and mental health issues.

SUMMARY:
Our Behavior Specialist provides therapeutic crisis intervention services within the school setting and works closely with the residential treatment team to provide a consistent treatment approach.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student Supervision & Safety:

Supports students during transitions such as arrivals, departures, and class changes. Assists in maintaining a positive classroom environment and ensures student compliance with rules and behavior goals. Helps monitor student attendance and addresses any truancy issues. Transports students as needed following established guidelines.

Integrated Mental Health:

Participates in developing and monitoring behavior goals within Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Attends progress meetings with staff and parents. Documents student behavior and intervention activities. Assists in organizing and implementing student activities and events, including field trips.

Program Policy, Procedure & Training:

Adheres to privacy and confidentiality policies regarding students and their families. Communicates professionally and respectfully with clients, coworkers, and external contacts. Stays current with company policies, required trainings, and certifications. Engages in crisis interventions, applying de-escalation techniques when necessary. Participates in and maintains certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) techniques.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Degree required, Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred Must be MHP qualified Minimum 2 years experience in a school, day treatment or residential treatment setting with demonstrated emphasis on behavior intervention responsibilities Valid driver’s license required. Must meet state regulating agency and Corporate driving requirements

Work Schedule & Salary: 

Monday-Friday 7a-3:30 pm This position supports a year-round school with paid break weeks & holidays off throughout the year Pay starts at $19 per hour

Physical Demands:

Must be able to assist staff in proper restraining of youths. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100+ pounds with assistance. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time (2-4 hours). Must be able to twist, bend and stretch in a manner conducive to the execution of daily activities within the residential program.
