BEC Policy Analyst
Job Description The Bureau of Environmental Compliance's mission is the enforcement of environmental laws and regulations which affect the health and safety of the public and environment. Specifically, the bureau enforces the City's Air and Noise Codes and the Asbestos Regulations. The Bureau is compromised of the Division of Air & Noise Permitting and Enforcement and the Asbestos Control Program. These divisions respond to: air and noise code complaints; inspect and track asbestos removal projects; and foster the goals of environmental protection. BEC updates the Air and Noise Codes as well as Rules of the City of New York to ensure compliance with State and City regulations and make necessary updates to those codes to improve air quality and reduce noise levels. Under the direction of a supervisor, the selected candidate will support air and noise enforcement by evaluating metrics and improvements to various air and noise programs. Under general supervision, the selected candidate will: - Work with enforcement unit to address community complaints rapidly and provide regulatory and technical assistance for Environmental Control Board hearings. - Use Microsoft Excel and Power BI as well as Power Point to support changes to the air and noise code and bureau operations providing quantitative and qualitative analysis. - Performs analytical studies to evaluate emission and noise data to correlate with policy and legal considerations. - Maintain project tracking data and create and update reports on project planning and progress. - Prepares research reports for review by senior staff. - Collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. Qualifications 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or 2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or 3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
