Job Description
The Backup Engineer (BE) will combine backup and system administrator skills to support and protect the company's backup data on IT systems according to defined policies. The BE will provide technical leadership and undertake engineering tasks, focusing on maintaining the backup infrastructure, including computers, servers, and storage. The role involves troubleshooting, problem analysis, and disaster recovery, as well as collaborating with other stakeholders to install and maintain the company's system, storage, and virtual compute infrastructure.
ResponsibilitiesProvide backup system administration support and collaborate with stakeholders to install and maintain the company’s system, storage, and virtual compute infrastructure.Design, implement, and manage backup systems, including on-premise and cloud-based solutions.Implement Backup/Data Protection, Storage infrastructure, and security and compliance standards.Revamp backup methodologies to align with current and emerging security standards.Ensure Backup Hardware Architecture meets capacity requirements for completing backup jobs timely and efficiently.Perform Backup and replication network engineering tasks, including encryption and security measures to safeguard data during transit and storage.Perform periodic software updates, fixes, and security patches on Backup/Data Protection and Storage products, specifically Dell EMC Avamar and Data Domain.Automate repeated manual tasks using scripts and job schedulers.Coordinate with storage engineers to orchestrate storage snapshot schedules and backup job schedules.Provide timely updates to management on backup system health and recovery status.Ensure daily scheduled backups complete successfully, on time, and are successfully replicated to the DR/Remote site to meet offsite backup requirements and ensure business continuity.Collaborate with IT and Business leaders to establish data backup requirements.Work closely with system administrators, network engineers, and database teams to align backup strategies with overall IT goals.Train and guide junior team members on backup best practices and tools.Essential SkillsProficiency in concept of operations development, system design and review, requirements definition, system transition planning, and system integration tasks.Experience with Avamar, Dell EMC, enterprise system monitoring, Vmware, and data domain.Exceptional knowledge of computer hardware.Deep-seated experience with desktop operating systems.Working knowledge of a range of diagnostic utilities.Demonstrated progressive experience in coordinating a technical support team.Solid relationship management and performance management skills.Strong understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.Strong documentation skills.Ability to conduct research into a wide range of computing issues as required.Ability to absorb and retain information quickly.Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language to non-technical staff and end users.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with logistics systems and cloud solution implementation.Knowledge of backup data and UNIX.Work Environment

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $130000.00
