The Automation Technician ensures the safe and efficient operation of automation equipment and machinery used in plastic injection molding and assembly. This role involves the maintenance, programming, setup, optimization, and troubleshooting of all automation systems and supporting machinery.
Duties & Responsibilities: Diagnose and resolve automation equipment issues to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime. Develop, implement, and troubleshoot programs for automation systems, including PLCs, servo drives, sensors, and camera systems. Continuously optimize equipment for increased efficiency, focusing on safety, quality, and cost reduction. Prioritize safety by identifying hazards, adhering to safety protocols, and reporting incidents and near misses. Contribute to developing preventative safety solutions. Collaborate with technicians to provide support, training, and problem-solving assistance. Contribute to technical projects, including development and implementation. Maintain accurate records of spare parts and components. Assist with equipment and tool changeovers and adjustments for efficiency optimization. Perform calibration activities as required. Maintain high cleanliness and organization standards in maintenance facilities, equipment, and tools. Set up, program, and integrate peripheral equipment as needed. Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshoot system failures. Adhere to all company safety policies and guidelines. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities: Strong understanding of automation systems, including PLCs, servo drivers, sensors, and camera systems. Proficient in robot programming and automation system programming. Experience with 6-axis robot automation. Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and troubleshooting. Ability to analyze issues, determine root causes, and implement solutions. Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) for effective teamwork and reporting. Strong focus on safety and adherence to company policies. Detail-oriented with strong record-keeping skills. Must pass a background check. Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience in automation integration within plastics injection molding. Knowledge of high voltage AC and low voltage DC electrical systems. Experience with troubleshooting and maintaining automation equipment. Experience with robot and automation programming. Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods standing, bending, and stooping while using tools and performing repetitive actions. Occasional sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts. Dexterity for operating testing equipment. Must be able to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
